Harvoni and labs during treatment

Hi Gang!

I finally started Harvoni on 6-29-15 and will be doing 24 weeks.  Today I received labs from my Hepatologist to do on 7-20-15 which would be three weeks from now.  The labs he wants me to do are Hepatic Function Panel and PCR Quantitive.  I understand why we are doing those tests but what about CBC's? You would think he would want to know how my platelets are doing since I am cirrhotic. I wonder why they weren't included and why does he want to do it in 3 weeks instead of 4?  Just curious as to what tests your Hepa ordered and how often?

Thanks and have a great day!

Jules

Thanks 48!  I put in a call to his nurse but this is a bad weekend so I probably won't hear from them until Monday.  I chose this Hepa Dr because he is supposedly one of the best in Orlando, at a teaching hospital, and is also a transplant surgeon.   Hopefully I would never need a transplant but I wanted to build a good relationship with him and the staff just in case.  I think the problem is with the training of his staff, whoever is responsible, to do the paperwork correctly.  Since I have the Harvoni I won't switch Dr's but as I finish the Harvoni and become SVR I am switching health insurance.  I will never use BCBS ever again.

Thanks for all of your support and happy 4th!

Almost didn't answer your last question. I had cbc's, hep function panel and pcr quantitative done at week 4 which was not detected, and week 12, also not detected. Also by week 12 my platelets were right in the pocket of being normal and so were my liver enzymes which were always high before. Good luck

I've heard the standard is 4 weeks and includes the CBC's. I would ask his nurse. Maybe it was an oversight. During my last two treatments I thought my Doctor was inept, but all I cared about this time was getting the Harvoni. I figured after I got done with that, and hopefully put it behind me, I would get another Doctor. I don't know if getting another Doctor at this point would mess you up as far as getting the Harvoni delivered to you or not. There is no telling what insurance companies are thinking right now. Beyond all this I am ecstatic that you are finally getting a chance to move forward on this. This is the post I've been waiting for. I have been anxiously waiting for you to get on this treatment. Best of luck to you Jules, and I hope you keep posting. This is going to do it for you, good luck.
