Has any one had a swollen ankle and foot?

by Mister beagle bailey, May 22, 2006 12:00AM
I'm in FL and will return to NY tomorrow.  My question is:  My right ankle and foot is swollen.  Has any one had this sx?  This is the second time it has happened to the same leg while on tx and in FL.  Any feed back will help.

Thanks,

BEAGLE

Thanks, I was starting to worry as I haven't seen swollen ankles posted here before.  Seems you and I have a lot of the same sxs buddy, fever, etc.  I feel better after hearing from you.

We have had very similar paths on this beagle. I don't know if the fever is as bad as the the sweats from the fever. My ankles are worse in the evenings. Of course everything is worse in the evening for some reason. I go for lab tomorrow to find out how the platelets are doing. If they move up from 55 he will leave me alone. Cross your fingers. Florida is feeling pretty good to you I am sure:) Dale

Hi,
Sorry to hear about your ankle and foot.  Does your foot pit when you mash on it?  I guess the medical term would be pitting edema?

Last year I had an episode of swelling in my foot to the degree that I could not wear a shoe on it.  Went to ER and all they said was eat less salt. This was crazy because my sodium levels are always running on the low side on my blood tests.  So, honestly I think my ER trip was a waste of time.  In any case, it eventually went away and it hasn't come back.  BTW my episode lasted a couple of weeks.

I have been through a complete battery of cardiac stress-type tests due to adema in the lower lega and my VA doctors have found NOTHING!  I have maintained throughout that the swelling was due to the liver disease.  They are denying me treatment because I and currently very depressed and they think I'm a suicide risk.  Either way I'm toast.  I am just beginning to search the literature on the swelling and thanks for bringing this up!!!!

I made the mistake of making a comment to my doctor that if this (treatment affects) was the best I could expect as far as quality of life I was ready to see what it was like on the other side. I really didn't mean it but (I don't think) but he wouldn't continue treatment unless I took anti depressants. I have them and don't take them but it makes him so happy. I hate that you have been feeling that way and I hope things smooth out for you real soon. I have blood pressure issues so I dodge salt so my ankle problems are simply this chemical intake. I know it will go away when treatment is complete.

You know I did have severe pain but it was coming from my calf muscles and going in to my ankle = I thought it was ankle pain and the doctor felt around and showed me where it was coming from but it did go away in time - just like the other sides it came and went I Hope it doesn't come back.

How are you doing? You are SO CLOSE NOW my friend I can't stand it!  :)

Beagle, how is your uric acid?  Could you possibly be developing gout?  Uric acid crystals deposit around the joints.  Ankels and knees are often affected

I found one article that linked hepatitis c to chronic arthritis with inflammation of the joints. The article said if you had this type of chronic arthritis with the inflammation you should be tested for hep C because hep C affected more than just the liver.  Here is the address:

http://www.asm.org/Media/index.asp?bid=31134

Then there was this by the Mayo clinic that said Ribavirin could cause gout.

http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/hepatitis-c/DS00097/DSECTION=8

So, one way or the other, it sounds like this joint inflammation could be either caused by the hep C or the treatment.

Wooohooo!  A sx I haven't experienced.  lol

Sorry your feet are swelling.  I hope they go down quickly.  When I was preggers, it always helped to elevate them higher than my heart.

Do you notice youself sitting with your feet down for long periods of time ,sometimes that will make whatever water overages you accumulate in your ankles i notice that it happens to my left foot esp. after long drives i think because i broke acouple of little bones when a huge can of juice fell on it...

Be sure to get up and walk around often tomorrow if you're flying.  Keep that foot elevated and see if that helps.

My ankles hurt along with my shoulders and hands.  All sides that are getting worse.  Good thing we've only got TWO to go!

Thanks, just got back to NY early this morning and the ankle is better.  But I'm down to 149lbs and not feeling so good.  I'm so close with 3 shots left, just hope my HGB is not down.

Get some rest there pal. Travel, in the best situations, is tiring.  Just a bit longer.  If you energy does not bounce back quickly is the trans still an option?  When do you get hgb again? Last was 7.4, right?
