by lackalustre, Jun 25, 2004 12:00AM
does anyone have suggestions as any health insurance company that will take on someone new with cleared SVR hepatitis c  with a year of having cleared the virus?????
we have had blue cross private family plan for years and are scared to cancel it but the premiums are tremendous.  i know they are high with all companies but any advice would be welcome.    thanks

by the way i did check with one company called LIFEWISE and anyone who has had or has hepatitis c is an automatic decline  with them!!!     wheather you got rid of the virus or not.      this is alarming!!!

I'm pretty sure that as long as you have kept continuous coverage, no health insurance company can deny you coverage regardless of health status.  A pre-existing condition exclusion only applies if you've been without coverage.  I switched insurance twice during tx without risk of losing coverage.

Are you talking health insurance or life insurance?

Health insurance rules and regulations vary by state.
There are certain laws that apply via governing rules.
The best thing to do is contact the Department of insurance in your state most have a web site and there you should be able to find a list of the companies that write in your state.
You will also be able to view complaints that have been made against the different companies.
Remember you want to stay with an A rated company as this has a determination on their ability to pay claims.

there are also companies that will write life insurance granted the premiums are higher and some only offer graded values.
like the policy will pay 25% 1st year 50% 2nd etc...

Please remember that different states have different rules you may want to contact a broker in your area that has many companies they write through and have them find you several rates.

Also may be easier to stay w/ bcbs and purchase a policy for the rest of your family with another company. Could save you alot of time and money

hope this helps

Health Insurance is virtually impossible to get with a pre-existing condition! We're in a dilemna. No Government Support.
No Health Insurance Coverage. We have to rely on Charity to some
degree. Things are not going to change if people remain complacent about these things.

Here's the law regarding pre-existing conditions as defined by  <a href="http://www.dol.gov/ebsa/newsroom/fshipaa.html">The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996</a>:

"<i>Preexisting Condition Exclusions

The law defines a preexisting condition as one for which medical advice, diagnosis, care, or treatment was recommended or received during the 6-month period prior to an individual’s enrollment date (which is the earlier of the first day of health coverage or the first day of any waiting period for coverage)

Group health plans and issuers may not exclude an individual’s preexisting medical condition from coverage for more than 12 months (18 months for late enrollees) after an individual’s enrollment date

Under HIPAA, a new employer’s plan must give individuals credit for the length of time they had prior continuous health coverage, without a break in coverage of 63 days or more, thereby reducing or eliminating the 12-month exclusion period (18 months for late enrollees)</i>"

Lackalustre was talking about PRIVATE health insurance. Hippa applies (I believe) to GROUP or employer--offered insurance plans.

I think private health plans CAN exclude you.

First of all - do not let your insurance lapse, or you'll be sunk.  The only way that we could keep our insurance is by changing from individual ( they dropped us) to forming a group policy. (hubby & I are a group of 2)  We can do this because we own our own business.  They just raised our policy to $1700 a month for the 2 of us.  He us completely healthy, but I have a history of breast cancer, and now HepC.  One company told us to come back when I am 10 years cancer-free....grrrrrrr!!!  We are at their mercy & payments are hard.  That's life, and so far, God has provided our needs & then some.  We feel truly blessed to get by - we're not well-to-do, by any means!

I'm believing & prayng for you - something's gotta give!

Hey I have had some worries about my insurance as well. I had to go on disability during tx. I am now on Cobra Solutions @ it ends on Nov1st. I contacted BXBSheild and I was told I couldn't apply for BX until 2 months before my insurance runs out. That will be Sep when I can re-aply. My husband has the same ins. as we worked @ the same place. I am wondering if they would turn me down because of my hep c. I worked for our co. for 5 yrs before I was diagnoised. I am trying to find out which would be less costly...me go on his insurance or pick up my own coverage. I am paying $255.54 a month for Cobra. But to add me to his insurance would be about the same. It may be a little more on his insurance. I am praying God will see me thru this. I'm sure he will. BTW my insurance has never lapsed. I will pray for us all to be able to get insurance to help us in our troubled times. Much love @ many prayers, Cindee

Heyya! What the heck is a bed topper??  And you are on the couch now until this comes in?? LOL  Sorry...but I have this mental pic now of your hubby trying to get that bed just right...haha and you are saying nope,,,has to be higher as you are retreating back to couch haha   Ok...being serious now,,,is it a comforter?

That is really neat you got a bracelet!! That should be kinda of a good luck charm for your great bx!  Do you know how many people would pay any amount of money for SVR or even for great biopsy?  I'm thinking when I am post SVR,,,,I'm going to buy me a very special piece of jewelry!!

Hey girl, As you know by now I love to shop on line...QVC.com @ it's on the T.V. as well. The bedtopper is a polyurethene piece that fits on top of your bed. It was discovered by NASA many years ago. It came today via UPS!!!! I washed all bed clothes and w/ the help ofmy neighbor, Millie, we got it put on. Your body and body heat causes it to conform to your body...keeping your spine in total alignment. I hope it works and hubby does too. When I try to sleep in the bed I can't get out of the bed! And I want my bed back. Bodipedics is who it is manufactured by You can go on QVC and check it out. They make a mattress in all sizes, but I didn't need a new mattress, as mine is almost new. So we decided to give it a try. You can try out everything on QVC for 30 days, if you don't like it, you get a full refund. QVC says to insure anything you have to send back, but I spoke w/ a postman and he says as long as it's not breakable....you don't need to insure it. You save $$ that way on re-turns. The only things I've ever had to return, is because I made the mistake of ordering the wrong color or sz. So check it out. Their jewerly diamonque is wonderful. I have always worn gold jewerly and wanted to get some silver for a change. Their silver is bonded w/ platium over top, so you can get it wet w/ no problems and the diamonds look so real! I will sleep in my bed tonite and I will let you know tomorrow on this same post...how I sleep. Hubby should sleep better too. Hope yo are feeling good these days...and give my best to your hubby. You both are always in my prayers. Cindee

Hey, I hope you have some sweet dreams on that new topper!  Sounds very interesting.....I am anxiously waiting to hear how you slept tonight, and what your opinion is about it.......

Hey gal, the bedtopper is great! I still wasn't able to stay in bed for more than 4 and 1/2 hours, but the time I spent in bed was very restful! I still had to use a chair beside my bed to get out of the bed. But I didn't toss and turn. Maybe it will get better as times goes on. I hope so. Hubby said he slept great on the topper! He loves it! I had gotten to where I couldn't get off the sofa w/o the help of a chair being beside me. So I'd much rather sleep in my bed! My body aches weren't so bad during my waking hours today, so that's a plus! I'll keep ya posted! Sweet dreams.....love @ prayers, Cindee

I want one!!  I even looked up at qvc and seriously thinking about trying one out.  Like you said,,our mattress is too new to buy a new one but we could definitely use a boost on top....And it would be wonderful on tx with all the body aches to sleep on! Keep me posted if you think its worth it...Happy Sleeping!
