Hep C geno Type 1A

Hi I am just found out today that I have Hep genotype 1A and am also HIV positive.  I was told by my Dr that genotype 1A is, for lack of a better term, not really treatable with HIV patients.  I am also a new HIV patient my T cells are 914 and my viral load is 1775 and am doing very well with my new meds for HIV.  I want to know some answers on why genotye 1A is usually not survivable and why the treatment for the other types work and how this affects my HIV treatment.  My one medication for HIV is Reyetaz and has some side affects with the liver.  Is this going to hurt me more.  I had a liver biospy 1.5 years ago and it was for something else and showed only scaring and I was told no Hep C found.  Then all of a sudden, I switched Dr.s, and this Dr took the time to go through my past medical records and research and did a viral count on me and the Hep C viral load was there but not a positive on the test.  How can this be?  He also did a genotype and found that I have the 1A.  He wants to make sure my HIV stays under control before I even consider any kind of treatment and was upfront with me that treatment probably will not work.  He wants to see me on the 07jul to discuss things further.  I don't know what to ask or where to begin.  I am only 39 years old and very healthy.  I have just been fatigued and keep on pushing myself,  I thought it was from stress.  But my Dr. says this one of the signs of the Hep C and wants to do another Biospy.  Do you know what if any success rate there is for HIV people with this Hep C 1A?  What should I do.Do you know of any clinical trials

Try to re-post your question at the top of this page.  As you can see, these threads are older, and we members do not usually scroll down this far to read the threads.....you can "break into" another post if you cannot get to generate your own questions....We can only initiate 6 questions per day here, but you can "jump"into another thread...just write "new question" in the "to:" section...you will get many answers this way...see you at the top.

I was trying to read my lab work on geno type but sure is confusing.  I did the treatment in 1999 for HepC and did not respond. The medication left me with a lung condiditon.  I was wondering if anybody else that did the Interferon and Rebetron had the same reaction.  jude80

Please post on a thread near the top of the list.  There are always open threads or ones you can tag onto up there.  The older threads can get ignored as most don't read down that far after a few days.

Yes, that's right. IU/ML = international units per milliliter on any lab report. Today IU has supplanted copies as the standard reporting usage because copies varried from lab to lab. Mike

Your starting viral load is considered very low from what I have read. The average viral load is 1 million IU/ML. You can check Janis or any number of sites to confirm this but I'm pretty sure you would be classified as "very low" and at the worst "low". And that bodes well for you. Hey, good luck.

Hi and welcome! I really don't know much about HIV @ Hep c together. Someone here will answer you soon, there are many people here that have more knowledge than me. I know hep c geno 1a is treatable, but w/ the HIV I don't know anything about the 2 hand in hand. There are many hep geno 1a's here that have cleared the virus. It happens everyday. You might go into the archives here..listed on the forum in the meantime. There may be some info. there. I will add you to my prayer list and I am happy to hear you are getting along well with your HIV tx. I can only PRAY that one day a treatment (tx) will be found to kill both viruses. I wish you the best and just keep looking here. Somebody like rev_______, TnHepGuy, Indiana...or someone can lead you in the right direction. Best wishes to you and many prayers, Cindee
