Hep C and Acities

I have Hep C and was told that Acities is one of the side effects of this diease. I was wondering if there was maybe some kind of diet I could follow to slow down the Acites effect.

Hep C alone would usually not cause ascites unless there is also cirrhosis present.  As Bill said, salt restriction is important -- sodium content is usually highest in packaged and processed foods, so in addition to not using salt, it's important to read labels and avoid high sodium content (<2,000 mg a day is usually recommended if there is ascites).  Doctors might also limit fluid intake or prescribe diuretics. Hope that helps.

You should probably be on a sodium restricted diet already if you have developed ascites; although I believe the primary treatment consists of the drugs Lasix and Spironolactone. Have you had paracentisis performed yet? What does the doctor recommend?
