Hep C patient - cramps in hands and feet

by readysetgo, Jun 05, 2006 12:00AM
my husband is nine weeks in to peg/riboviran treatment and the hand
cramps and feet and leg cramps are almost unbearable.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  We've run hot water over them, and
put the heating pad on them, tried to walk it off, nothing seems to
help.  thanks

I almost swear by putting soap under the sheets and if I get a cramp just putting soap next to the skin. Use any brand of bar soap except ivory. It works for me.

Has he increased fluid (water) consumption while on tx? He should be trying to get in about a gallon a day - spaced throughout the day. It might help.

I was getting wicked cramps but found that once I upped my water intake to around gallon a day, the cramps AND headaches disappeared.  Its worth the 50 trips to the bathroom a day - although my employees give me strange looks!!

I also have the pain in my wrist and feet and it seem'sto be worse at night.  I take pain meds to take the edge off.  I know what your going through and it's not easy.  I'm also on procrit and that also causes bone pain.  Just hang in there, your slaying the dragon and that's what's important.  Talk to your dr as he may be able to give you something for the pain.

I had bad leg cramps started to eat more foods containing potassium and taking potassium pills Haven't had a problem since!  I didn't know for sure if it was the meds or not. Can never get a straight answer from Doc!
