Hi and welcome.  None of us are doctors in here....mainly HepC patients.  I think most people in here will tell you to have a biopsy before starting treatment.  I plan to have one.  A biopsy is the only true way to know the condition of your liver. What geno type are you?

Hi.  I developed Graves from the Interferon used for treatment and I never had ANY problem with my thyroid before.  The Int. went in and killed off my thyroid and made me completely hyper thyroid. Then later it did a typical thing and went completely HYPO.

I go to an Endocronologist and he put me on Synthroid to replace the thyroid enzymes that should be there but are not.  I don't believe it have ANYTHING to do with my liver at all.

My thyroid died because the INTERFERON went in and thought in addition to killing the virus that my thyroid was bad too and killed it off as well.  Typically with Graves they radiate and then remove the gland from your neck. But now that I am HYPO (Hashimoto's Disease) they will not.

There is no reason at all that I know of that you cannot treat your thyroid problem right now. Others in here are both on treatment and have thyroid issues.

It's not all that uncommon to develop the autoimmune disease ON treatment so this might be a reason that your doctor is hesitant. since it is a bad thing (I will be on medication now for the rest of my life) - and it is CAUSED by the interferon - the doc might be worried about putting you on the treatment meds as a result.

I hope that helped somehow. Sorry for all your bad news believe me I can relate.

Get the biopsy, find out where you stand. Maybe you don't even NEED to do treatment right now! But you won't know until you find out the results of the biopsy.

hey home girl and fellow subber,
geeze, i did not read of your thyroid problems. that is pretty serious. did they inform you of the possible sides before tx?
as you may have read that 2 weeks after tx i still have bad sun and psoriasis problems related to suppression of my autoimune system. i hope to heck they get better but my dr. says he does not know when or if.

i am with your statement that is the bx is good to strongly consider waiting a few years to see what is happening. this stuff can be poison to many.

Hey subber - nice to see how our pal is doing huh? :)  What unbelievably fantastic news for him!

I just took two subs a little while ago - ahh it sure helps ;)

I want so desperately to go into the sun...it's going to be so hard this year but from what happened to you and a few others it's not worth the chance.  God knows this autoimmune stuff is NOTHING to mess around with.  I had NO Idea that this could happen before treatment started = one of the little things that got left out of my speech (either that or I just didn't pay attention knowing it couldn't happen to ME ;)

But then we should figure out that there is SOME reason they check our TSH and T3 levels and stuff all of the time. I just didn't realize how serious it really was - not that it would have helped if I had or anything you know?

I'd probably hve just worried myself into it anyway.

he will clear. nice to be gene 2, 300,000 vl, and no starting damage or swelling. it brings them odds up to 99.999%
