Hepatic Encephalites

I know I spelled that wrong sorry, I was diagnosed with active Hep C about 5 Years ago, one year after knowing that I had it I tried the interferion treatment. I was going to take my third shot so I had been on the treatment for only two weeks. I suddenly had a reaction that caused me to have very hight ammonia levels and caused me to go into temporary dementia. I have asked to try the treatment again and see if they can monitor the ammonia levels and maybe do something to stop that from happening. But the doc's say they won't do the treatment again. My question is why can't they.

Have you undergone biopsy recently? Do you have lab results that suggest you might have decompensated cirrhosis? The currently available treatment drugs (interferon and ribavirin) are not indicated for those with decompensated liver disease. Some folks will treat with Child-Pugh class A cirrhosis; those with class B and C are generally excluded from this treatment. Are you on a transplant list now? More info is needed to suggest a course of action.

Good luck—

Bill
