Hepatitis C - Victrelis

Hi My wife had treatment for her hepatitis C approx 5 years ago with the drug called "Victrelis" along with Ribavirin.
Everything was a success even through we experienced some bumpy spells withing the 12 months of her treatment.

One thing I experienced since she has been clear of hepatitis c and received her Chemotherapy, she experiences many spells every couple of weeks where she picks up infections, and the infections always tend to hit her 10 times harder than a normal person and after one - two weeks of recovery something else is knocking at the door "another infection".

Sinus Infection, Upper Respiratory Infection, Flu, Bronchitis. Pneumonia, Weakness.

Question:
Has anyone been though treatment for Hepatitis C over the past few years and come to find they are more prone to picking up infections ?

She has had her white blood count tested - Result Fine !

She has had her Immune System tested - Result Fine !

Adrenal Glands tested - Result Fine !

So nothing makes sense as she was never in this position prior to chemotherapy but each time you go to the doctor for tests on white blood cells everything is fine, which does not make sense.

Obviously something is wrong but doctors do not know what to look for !

Hi Cliff

So sorry to hear of your wife's health problems I hope her doctors are able to find out what is happening with her.

As to your question:

"Has anyone been though treatment for Hepatitis C over the past few years and come to find they are more prone to picking up infections ? "

Actually no one has been treated with Victrelis for a while now since the new generation treatments with the new DAA's (direct acting antivirals) were approved in late 2013 and 2014. You may have seen TV commercials for Harvoni. Treatment today is very different from what your wife experienced. Harvoni treatment for example could be as simple as 1 pill a day for as few as 8 weeks and curing about 98% of patients with no prior treatment and little to no liver damage.

You may want to try your question in the Hepatitis C; Post treatment forum

Hoping you find answers that can help you wife.

Good luck
