Hepatitis C Ab(EIA) - Can it be false positive?
Dear friends,
If the result of a testing showed Hepatitis C Ab(EIA) - POSITIVE, can it be a false positive?
I mean, if someone got 3 times a treatment course (the last one lasted for 1.5 years and ended about an year ago), can this positive mean that there was an infection in the past?
Or does it mean that the virus has returned again?!

When one has HCV ..whether treated successfully or not they will always subsequently test positive withHCV (antibodies)
If you feel there was a re-infection then an HCV/RNA by PCR would need to be done.
Best to you..

Will is right, the test you took is for the antibody. The "AB" stands for antibody - which those of us who have/had the virus will always have.
