I am originally from Fairfield Country, CT and am listed for transplant at Yale-New Haven Hospital so I am familiar with there services. I agree with uncledudeness. Yale is the place to go for a trial.
Do you have any idea how advanced your mother-in-law's liver disease is?
Has she had a biopsy yet?
Does she have symptoms (fatigue, fluid retention, yellow eyes or skin?) or was the hepatitis C infection discovered by accident?
The reason I ask is I assume she once worked and will be eligible for Medicare or Medicaid when she turns 65?
Also starting January 1, 2014 she will, if not eligible for medicaid be eligible for low cost health insurance pre-existing problems of being turned down for individual insurance or charged more for having chronic hepatitis C.
So option are available. It depends on her individual circumstances as what the best options will be for her.
Good luck!
Hector
if she can get into a clinical trial all meds are paid for. since you live close to Yale New Haven Hospital, I would suggest calling:
Joseph K Lim, MD Associate Professor of Medicine (Digestive Diseases); Director, Yale Viral Hepatitis Program
(203) 785-4138 Appointments
he runs all the clinical trials at Yale for HCV.
good luck
