Hepatitis and Insomnia

by calagold, Oct 08, 2005 12:00AM
After tx, I have been virus free for the last six months. I feel fine except when the night that I suffer from insomnia. The next day I am a total wreck: I am unable to do any thing. Whenever I try to take some of over-counter sleeps aids such as Sominex though I can sleep through the night, yet waking up tired. I am afraid of taking prescribed medicines like Ambine because I might get addictive to the drugs.  Anybody want to share his/her experience to counter insomnia?

When I came off my last few treatments, I was very hyper and my sleep didn't get normal until I'd been off of it for 5 mon.  I took Ambien for awhile, but eventually it stopped working, so I gave it up.   The insomnia will get better after you've been off of treatment for a length of time.

I've been taking Ambien for many years and it still works and I've never had to increase dose. I was given Trazodone when I was hospitalized for a motorcycle accident and though it didn't put me right to sleep like Ambien it seemed to keep me asleep longer once I got to sleep. Bottom line is I think Ambien works well and am awaiting the time release version soon to be released. mike

I could fall asleep, but I woke up a couple of hours later. The dr prescribed trazodone, an antidepressant. It seemed to help so I've continued to use it after the tx was finished.  You take it at bedtime. I haven't noticed any side effects.

Go to any store that sells supplements and vitamins and look for Melatonin. This has done the trick for me, and never needed any Rx'd drugs..

Yes, Melatonin.  Highly recommended by my pharmacist who swears he will NEVER take drugs!
