My husband's organs were tested and found positive for Hepatitis B Core Antibody and Hepatitis C Ab. What is this and does this mean I am infected?

I'm not sure about the HepB - but I do know it is highly contagious through bodily fluids.

But just having the core antibody means that he was infected at one time and I'd have to see the rest on HepB to know whether or not he was actively infected - or just had the antibodies.

Get yourself checked - because in that type of proximity you could be carrying the disease itself or you could be free of it. I can't tell with the little info you have there.

As to the HEPC - that means he has or has had HEPC in his system. I couldn't tell you if he was actively contagious but HEPC is very difficult to contract - unless you have Blood to Blood interaction. You would need to get a viral load to know if he had the disease and spontaneously cleared it or if he had the disease and it was actively working and replicating in his body and he was contagious.

I would ask your doctor for a hepatitis panel - and if you come back with a clean bill of health - fantastic.

Hepatitis B Core Antibody indicates being infected with the HepB virus.  If could be a past infection (which is no problem) or a present infection.  Your husband should ask his MD to do a full HepB panel to get a clearer picture.
