Prozac (fluoxetine) is an anti-depressant that works by inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin back into your brain, thereby encouraging it to produce more. It has one of the longest half-lifes of all the SSRIs and is therefore one of the easiest to wean off of. It is generally taken early in the day so that you won't have diffuculty sleeping at night.

When i started treatment for HepC my doc put me on Paxill - the meds we take can cause severe depression.  If she gets to the point where she needs to treat it might be good they have her on the Prozac now - people with heavy duty psych profiles are hard to keep on the interferon sometimes because of the depressive issues.

is she treating?

No my sister is not doing any treatment at this time.  She just asked me to get some information on taking prosac with her hepC.  She want to know if there was any side effects.  From what I am ready there is none and if she was being treated the doctors would put her and some kinda of depression medicine.  Am I understanding this correctly?

If she does start treatment for HepC, the Prozac may save her life.  Tell her to start the Prozac 3 weeks to a month before the HepC treatment.
