Hepatitus C patient going for a renal transplant

My father is a renal failure patient since last 8 years and is on haemodialysis has now developed Chronic hepatitus (hepatitis) C genotype 1A.He previously had a renal transplant but the graft rejected
just after a week.Now we have a good match for his renal transplant but his hepatitus (hepatitis) c status has created a new problem although his LFTs are normal and he had a liver biopsy recently.
The report of the biopsy is LIVER,TRUCUT BIOPSY; Chronic hepatitus (hepatitis) with focal mild activity;
modiefied HAI score 3/18 ;fibrosis 2/6.
           My question is should he go for the renal transplant as he is tired of having dialysis thrice a week for last 4 years.
It would be your great help if u could suggest some solve of our biggest problem...

I have polycystic kidneys but they are still functioning and also have hep c. I am no doctor but, if you have a match for a kidney, I would go for it. You can always do treatment after you have recovered from the transplant.

I hope this helps, I know it isn't much. God bless and keep positive!

Sincerely,
Dana

I would go for it as long as the surgeon is willing. I know people who can not get a kidney transplant because of their hep c status - one who comes to mind has to get his viral load under 100,000 before they'll transplant. Why that is I don't know. But if your father can tolerate the surgery I would get it because I doubt it is going to get easier down the road. Of course, he'll still have to deal with the hep c but that is going to be there regardless. Good luck. Mike

As far as the liver biopsy rsults, they are very reliable in telling the progression of the liver disease. Again, hope this helps!
