Hepc Antibody for 6month old baby

Hepc Antibody for 6month old baby

HEy guys I hope all is well. Just had a question for you.  We have adopted 2 children from  lady who had Chronic HepC.  Our 3 year old has the HepC anitbody but has always tested negative for the actual virus.  Now we have his 6 month old sister who just tested + for the antibody on Friday.  The doctors say that she still has her mother's antibody.  Do all babies' born to Hep C mothers have that antibody or just the ones that are exposed?

As I understand it, it is very commomn for babies to test positive for the antibodies when they are born, because they  still have their mother's antibodies. That is why you have to wait until they are at least 18 months old. I have a 3yo daughter who tested negative . She was born by C-section. Best of luck to you and congratulations on your new baby.

I had 3 daughters by C-Section and not one of them have hep c or test positive even for antibodies.  The babies must have been exposed somehow is what I'm thinking but looks like they cleared so are not carriers.  Maybe someone else here will have an idea on how they have acquired the antibodies because that is puzzling to me also.  One thing of reassurance to you is they don't have it so you don't have to worry about contamination.

How old were your babies when they were tested.  My doctor had wanted to wait until my child was 18 months old becasue she acted as if most babies will test positive for the antibody until they are a year old.  She said that they still have there maternal antibody.  Does this sound right???

I'm not really sure on that to be truthful.  I just found out I had hep c little over a year ago and my kids are grown so when tested,,,they tested negative.  I have always been told that you can be clear from the virus but the antibodies will always show up.  Maybe someone else that knows more here can help us out with your question.
