Bard, like you I have had HCV since the late sixty's. I have been taking supplements and herbs since it was confirmed in 91. I was having the same problems with my bloodwork as well. When my doctors found out about my taking alternative "med's" they blew a gasket! They needed to know everything I was taking and to wait for their approval before taking more. I was given a list of what I could take and a list of what not to take. A month later all my liver enzyme tests improved. You also must understand, everything from a virus to an infection can elevate your bloodwork. To be able to sustain now and after transplant, it will be necessary to stay as healthy as possible. Eat right (low carb and little to no salt), eating plenty of veggies, real whole wheat foods, fruit, lots of water and last, exercise. For it not to get boring, eating varieties can help. I am always trying new concoctions, some turn out good and some do not! I meditate, listen to oldies but goodies and fish for relaxation. Everyone needs an outlet to put their problems a side just to get refreashed. What I have said works for me and may not for you. What will work is to keep a positive frame of mind no matter how tough it gets. Please if nothing else, listen to your doctor and let him know what your priorities are so the two of you can come to an agreement that will benifit you. I wish you the best of health and a full life a head. Warm Regards, Positive 1.
Herbs can REALLY cause your enzymes to sky rocket. I'd stop them for a month and then have the test done again. Chances are they will be way down.
Do you understand that liver enzymes RISE because of DYING liver cells? It really IS worth investigating that it probably is your herbs.
I have had interferon 3 times - it didn't work so I've been taking herbs for maintenance. I feel great and those are my only abnormalities.
I agree, I'd eliminate the herbs and see if they go down. If not, that is showing you the virus is active, have you considered treating?
Yes they have a;ways been high - but they flcutuate so much. Whci herbs have you heard of specifically?

have your LFT #'s always been high since you found out about the hep? if not then i would look at the herbs you are taking, some of these supplements/herbs are known to cause the LFT's to rise.
