High Gamma GT and SGOT/SGPT

On 15th of October I had an uneasy feeling and passed Yellow Urine. I did an LFT and found High levels of everything. I took precautions as per my GP and on 31st October LFT found all of them down(SGOT 55, SGPT - 400, Gama GT - 700). My latest test on 3rd of December had everything down except the SGOT (SGOT - 70, SGPT - 195, Gamma GT - 400) Total Bilirubin count was still 0.05 points higher than the normal range.
My Hepatitis A,B,C,D,E tests are NEGATIVE.
Even after 2 months of Bed rest and very restricted diet (low Oil, no dairy products or fatty foods, low protein) my SGOT/SGPT levels are not normal.
Can anyone please tell me what could be the problem ?

If you are in the acute phase of certain Hepatitis the tests may not be accurate. Ask the dr what the minimum period after infection of Hep C before the test is reliable.

Also, there are no dr's on this site and your situation is clearly best for the professional medical community.

Thanks a lot! When I was getting my ultrasound done, the doc had the same idea. I think I will check with my GP again.

Hi ramd.  You could have hep, I'm just curious, why have you been on bedrest for two months?  Are you feeling sick?  I mean... what kind of precautions are you talking about?  Did you get sick with at kind of uneasy feeling are you talking about, and why have you been on two months of bedrest?   are you on bedrest?  If you were sick in October and tested for hep in Dec, it should , a hep panel would Are you drinking?

If you have acute Hep C, it is VERY important for tx purposes that you get it diagnosed.  Because I had my acute Hep C diagnosed earlier this year, my chances of recovery went from 40% to 90%.  It sounds like they tested you for Hep C antibodies - NOT EVERYONE HAS HEP C ANTIBODIES.  If you think you may have acute Hep C, insist on a PCR test.  A Viral Load will show even w/out antibodies.  My symptoms for 4-6 weeks were EXTREME FATIGUE (18-20 hrs sleep/day), DARK URINE, WHITE FECES, MAJOR ITCHY SKIN, HIGH ALT'S (600 - 700 and a month later down to 70 and 50) & WEIGHT LOSS.  Hep C is called the silent killer for a reason.  Don't let it "get" you.  All my best, Aiuta

Most of the folks on this site have Hep C. A few of us have AutoImmuneHepatitis, I am one of those. In reading your post I find some similarities to myself. I had extreme fatigue, jaundice, joint pain, loss of appetite, spider veins, dark urine, pale stools, enlarged liver and itching.  I had the Hep panel done 3 times, negative 3 times, ultra sounds twice, Cat scan and MRI. Those were normal.  There are some blood tests that pick up the antinuclear antibodies ANA, smooth muscle antibodies SMA or liver and kidney microsomes LKM. In AIH we have a positive to one or more of these. A liver biopsy helps to nail the diagnosis. Are you seeing a specialist? I hope you get answers soon.

Hi again Ramd, lol - hmmm... sorry about that.  I came back to continue writing my note to you, and it was gone and on the board. Must've hit a wrong key going to get coffee.  Anyhow, I was curious - are you sick feeling now? or are your labs just out of whack?  And did the precautions back in October include your doctor telling you to lay off any alcohol  (the reason I'm asking, obviously, is because alcohol can make those tests go up like that, and they can stay elevated for a while), or were the precautions just diet change and bedrest?  Two months of bedrest is a long time.  Are you in bed because you feel sick?  If you are feeling sick and keep having abnormal labs, ask your primary doctor (your GP) to refer you to a gastroenterologist.  If you had symptoms in October, chances are (if this was hepatitis) you had the hep in September. Testing for hep in December should have shown something if you had hep.  Let us know if the doc runs a second test and if you test positive for Hep this time.

What do you mean by "NOT EVERYONE HAS HEP C ANTIBODIES"?? Do you mean some people never develop them, or they don't develop them early in the course of the disease (like up to 6 months after infection)??

he needs to stop drinking alcohol and eat right and retest in a few months. Has he been tested for Hepatitis AB and C? If you have ruled out Hepatitis, Alcohol can cause his SGOT and SGPT to be elevated.
He needs to take better care of himself.

I replied to the post you accidentally posted in the autism forum. I think you meant to post in the alcoholism forum because this post is where it should be, but the other, I reported to med help as a miss cat so they can move it to the proper forum.

I agree with Kalio1. The alcohol needs to go. Not only is it hurting the liver, but the fact you say he is not eating properly brings him in more danger because alcohol blocks the body from absorbing important vitamins. He is becoming malnourished.

vitamins destroyed by alcohol:
folate,
B12,
B6,
Thiamine,

niacin,
Vitamin A,
zinc
