High Hemoglobin 3-4 years

I have Hep C and was just tested for Hemochromatosis.  I am supposed to start tx in a week.  I an wondering why it took this long for a doctor to notice my high hemoglobin lab results when they have been this high for 3-4- years.

I have been really sick for the last 3 months... unable to eat, major stomach problems..... was diagnosed with gastritis but was told I shouldn't have that much pain.... none of the meds worked that were prescribed for the gastritis.

I am so weak, light headed, have the shakes, horribly fatigued and my brain does not work anymore......

I am sure that someone will come on that knows a whole lot more than I do about that disease but I did have Poyphyria (PCT) and it is caused by the high hemoglobin.  I can not believe that you have not had any phlebotomies (blood removal) to lower your hemoglobin.  

Did you ask the doctor why he never noticed the high hemoglobin?

Since a lot of us had our hgb drop quite a bit after starting tx, maybe tx will resolve that problem for you. That would be great!

Sorry you are feeling so bad... can't say that tx will help with that but you never know. I had really achy shoulders, knees and ankles before tx and none of them hurt now (I'm on week 26).
