High Liver Enzymes

My husband had a positive skin test for TB and had lab work done before receiving treatment with INH. They found that he has a high liver enzyme count, too high to be treated with a medication that is hard on the liver. He is 22 years old and has always been very active and healthy. The doctor told him that it was due to his drinking, but my husband does not drink. He has had a few drinks about once every six months, and not at all for six months prior to having his lab work done. There is no possibility that his liver was damaged by such low volume, sporadic drinking. I have been told that these results are often indicative of hepatitis. I don't think there is any possibility that he may have Hepatitis, so what else could have caused this and how should we go about treating him?

Nobody every wants to think there is a possibility of Hepatitis, but there is.. I'm only 27, and was infected at birth by my mother.. It happens.
Your husband needs to tell his DR to run the test for HCV antibodies..

yes! do all the blood tests to find out what is causing it...hep a,b,c...etc... high iron...AIH, Auto immune hep...fuliment liver damage from toxins, various drugs... and there is more...

IMPORTANT: THERE IS SOMETHING CALLED "NASH" NON ALCOHOLIC STEATOSIS IT LOOKS ((EXACTLY)) LIKE ALCOHOL DAMAGE BUT IS CAUSED FROM FAT IN LIVER...THIS IS MORE COMMON WITH HEAVY PEOPLE AND HIGH BMI'S BUT CAN AFFECT ANYONE...if you do a search you will find info...

but don't forget to get a biopsy because a high number does not have to mean a lot of damage...it's a good indicator but not the final word on that...only a biopsy can determin liver damage in a dependable way...it's the gold standard...and most of us here have had them...there not that bad no reason to fear.

Don't let them tell you they CAN'T treat for something and that it's too late based on incomplete testing...EDUCATE YOURSELF! ALL DOCTORS ARE NOT CREATED EQUAL!!! SOME ARE NEGLIGENT OR DO ONLY THE MINIMUM. SOME HAVE WRONG IDEAS ABOUT TREATMENT...GET SECOND OPINIONS IF NEEDED AND TRY TO FIND A HEPATOLOGIST...OR AT LEAST A GASTROINTEROLOGIST...THESE THINGS ARE OVER THE HEADS OF ALOT OF DOCS...

dr also needs to do c-scans to determin livers over all appearance (if large or inflamed and to check for bumps and texture)...and to see if his spleen has been affected or if any cancer is present...

once determined how bad his liver is and what is the cause and getting on treatment, keep getting c-sans through life to make sure liver cancer doesn't pop up...damaged livers need to be watched for this...

hope all this helps, sending a prayer up for you,let us know how it goes...

First concentrate on the most likely, and that would be Hep-B or C, from what you've stated.
I agree with snook_man and Sandi, have him get checked for Hepatitis A, B, and C.
Then go from the.

 Good Luck and GOD BLESS!

So I am now worried why my billrubin is high . Is it a cause of jaundice but there is no any symtom of jaundice etc in my face or eyes. Ort is it a chance of Hepatatis.

and yes it can be a sign of serious liver problems...but it may not, so you need to pursue the problem with the dr.

my sugestion is that you find a gastroenterologist or a hepatologist if your dr isn't helping you find out.

you should ask your dr and find out.

i suppose the antibiotics could cause rises in some blood tests, but you need to take this very seriously and get to a dr that will help you find out the problem...you need more tests...

hello to you on the other side of the globe!
You should be aware that the questions you ask in this forum are not monitored by any physicians, only hepatitis patients or persons related to them..The gastroenterology section does have a doctor, so you might want to post over there.
good luck to you

one of my friend no.1
He have been using Natural Clam for about two months and this is an amazing product that he have ever experienced! his work required him to travel and to work until late at night. he always have hectic schedule and experience tremendous work pressure. As a result, he always can't sleep well and felt worn out. his liver was diagnosed beyond ordinary stage although yet to become critical. Since he used the product, he also took advice to go to bed early every day. As he started to change his lifestyle, he have spent more times with his wife and kids. his physical body has been improved greatly and so as my lifestyle. he can now sleep better, more energized and feel more healthy and happy ever. Natural Clam is a wonderful product!
