Highlevels of toxins due to liver and kidney failure, how long can someone live with this?

by kittykat70, Sep 27, 2009 02:23PM
My 74 year old mother has just moved into a nursig home after 12 weeks in hospital.  She is confussed all the time spending lon periods sobbing asking to die.  She is already at stage 4 Kidney failure and has been for a couple of years Also he has cirrocis of the liver and the toxins in her body through her liver failure and Kidney failure are making her confussed and imagine things all the time.  Her health has deteriorated the past few months to the point we were expecting something big like this to happen.  6 Years ago she had heart surgery as she has irregular heart beat, metal valve fitted, she had fluid on her lungs.  We have been told if she ended up in hospital she would be finished as being active was the only thing keeping the fluid build up down and once in hospital for any period she would slowly deteriorate.

She is sat in a chair for part of the day but she is very week and drowsy. I want to know what to expect.  How long can sh live with toxins iner body attacking her orans which are already failing.  I has been sai she will probably have a heart attack due to the problems her heart is having.  She hates life, I hate seeing her like this and I just want to know how long it can go on like this.  Just the unknown is killing me at the moment.  I can deal with anything if I have the facts and I feel I do not know enough about any of this to help understand what will happen.

Any advice welcome.

I am very sorry to hear about your mom's illness. Unfortunately no one knows the answer to your question. It certainly sounds as if she is in endstage liver failure. I hope the doctors can keep her comfortable. She is fortunate to have such a loving daughter.

My mother sadly lost her battle 2 weeks ago.  She deteriated into a coma and less than 48hrs later she died.  It was a lot quicker than I imagined, as the day before she was walking about in the nursinghome.  She is no longer in pain or confussed.  Thankyou for everyones advice.

I am sorry to hear about your mom's passing. She certainly had her share of trials the last few years. I wish you peace and healing in the days and weeks ahead......Pam
