How Easy can Hep C be transfered tome???

I met someone that I am interested in getting to know better but this person told me they have
Hep C. If I were to ever have unprotected sex with this person would I get infected with it also?
How likely is it I would become infected if I were to start an intimate relationship with this person
and had numerous sexual encounters including, but not limited to, kissing and oral sex?

It's awesome that you're not running screaming away. It's also great that you're taking the time to get to know this person.

You need to take the time to learn about this disease... Find out if this person has treated - how they are doing - etc. Where they are in their progression of the disease and everything about it.

" If I were to ever have unprotected sex with this person would I get infected with it also?"

The chance of getting HCV from unprotected sex is very low.

Hepatitis C is a BLOOD BORNE disease. Infected blood from an infected person MUST enter the blood stream of the uninfected person in order for an infection to take place.

That doesn't mean it can't happen --- just not often.

IF you both have sores --- openly bleeding - then the chances raise - etc.

This goes for oral sex as well.

I believe until you are monogamous --- in a married relationship - SAFE sex is a priority - to protect you... And more importantly ---- Protect the HCV person. People with HCV often have lowered immunities and may be more prone to catch stds, diseases and colds, flus, etc.

Chances are you probably won't get HEPC from sexual encounters with a person with HEPC...

This is not true for HEP B or HEP A... So please make sure you know which hepatitis you are dealing with.

My suggestion is that you use universal precautions when it comes to blood and blood products... Nail files, tooth brushes - razors --- no proof that things happen or actually transmit -- but --- the chance is there.

All in all --- if you're serious about this person - then don't let this disease get in your way...

Find out about it --- but don't run screaming because of it.

My husband and my daughter do not have HCV...

So - it's not "that' contagious --- you're not gonna get it from eating after a person or showering --- etc. etc.

Thanks for asking - and good luck in your relationship.

Remember - if you do start going out with this person - please get tested beforehand (HEP PANEL) and get tested every 2 years thereafter.

Much luck!

My husand has Hep C and i've read there is a 15% chance of getting it via sex and a bit more of a chance of getting it if you have a herpes outbreak or lesions, blood to blood contact.  The chances are minimal but it is possible. I haven't been tested in years which I know I really should be again.

My husband was diagnosed with HepC 18 yrs ago. I do not have it after all these years and an active sex life. We don't use protection as we were pretty much assured I'd not "catch" it from him.

What other diseases might this person have? You don't really know. Right? You wouldn't want to get a STD, HIV, or herpes either would you?

Be smart and responsible PRACTICE SAFE SEX then you'll have little to worry about.

This is a "no brainer"! This this 101 in sex ed right???
Scary...

sexual transamission is rare.  When it happens, male to female is more likely than female to male.

Hepatitis C is rarely transmitted sexually. It is a transmitted via blood contact as in blood transfusions, shared medical equipment (IV needles, etc.). The Center for Disease Control does not even recommend using a condom for sexual intercourse in monogamous couples.

That said, it is recommended that you not share razors, toothbrushes, nail clippers or other things that could transmit your partner's blood to your blood.
