How can i get in the Telaprevir ClinicalTrial??

I look on the ClinicalTrials.gov web site and they are recruiting in NJ and NY but no phone #'s at each place... I called Vertex Pharmaceuticals to enroll in the trial.. They said to look on the web site every once in a while to see if they posted the #'s of the places that are recruiting... what can i do??

Did you look right down the bottom of the page of all the blurb?

There is usually a name of the study doctor or coordinator and a phone number or email address.  It's quite hard to see them sometimes cos they're just dumped in the midst of other info.

I don't what trial you are looking at but I checked 5 different trials and they all had the info somewhere there...

You may already tried this:

Contact: Central Contact Center     877-634-VRTX     ***@****

You need the overall coordinator, not just a receptionist.  Hound them!!

Have you emailed them as well?  What about your treating doc or specialist, do they have a contact or know what facility the trial will be done through and then call that facility?

Where there is a will there is way, my friend...

Your going to have to go thru your Doctor. Good luck

Even though it might say its recruiting in your location doesn;t make it so, the trial i'm in still says its recuriting here but has been closed for over 2 weeks now. plus your doctor is the one that decides which patients to try and get in the most popular trials.

I'd try calling the larger hospitals in your area.  Teaching hospitals are good too.  Ask for the GI department and ask them if they have any clinical trials.

I did not go through my doctor. I knew another center was recruiting for a trial I wanted and then I just bugged them til I got in---may not work everytime, but worth a shot (no pun intended)

Good luck

Well good for you, the reason i said your doctor is because at the teaching hospital i go to had about 20 slots open but had many more then that wanting in. My hepo tried to get as many of his cirrhotic people in first.

But it looks like in your case as in most things doing your home work paid off. Good luck to you.

I definately got lucky.  Ya just never know, lol!  At the Mayo, for whatever reason, they were dragging their feet on getting started barely got all their slots filled.  Meanwhile, at my original doc's office, they had a waiting list.

Hospital politics definately worked in my favor this time =)

when i was on the virimadine trial few years ago, i got on it right thru the clinical trials .gov site but its not that easy anymore...most of the time you need to get your dr to get you in... they no longer recruit for these trials right off the clinicaltrials web site, each trial site recruits thru their patient base... and most of the sites have a nice big patient base to choose from unfortunately

im still waiting for a phone call myself, my dr put my name in to Jefferson but nobody has called me yet...

COPYMAN - can you msg me that direct phone number also?  where in NJ is that trial site?

After reading all these post I have to feel pretty lucky. I was referred by my Dr. who gave me the information and referral to the clinic. It was relatively easy. I just had to do all the pre-qualifications. It took a couple of months to get everything ready. I have to agree with PJhep80 though. In order to get into these trials will depend on where you live, What Dr. you have and their patient base. I think for the most part the Dr. looks for the most ideal candidates. If you were a non responder or have previously been in a clinical trial your odds go way down. The good thing about getting into a clinical trial is the free meds and the fact that you have a better than 40% odds of SRV. In my case the SRV rate is better than 60% and I have read reports as high as 74%. That is a major difference compared to the 40% standard care rate. I am in the Boceprevir trial and you may want to look into that. Both Teleprevir and Boceprevir trials are having the best results so far as I know of. I wish you luck in getting into these trials.
