How long does the fever last?

Hi. My husband just took his first shot friday. Woke with a low fever on Sat. The fever really took off Sat. night. Finally backed off some last night but still has low fever this morning. Will the fever last less time as treatment goes on?

Thanks Strator, yeah sorry, you guys seem so savvy I didn't think to explain what hyponatraemia is.  It is low sodium in the blood and can be caused by drinking too much water (remember those people on ecstasy)it can cause heart problems as it throws the sodium/potassium pump out of balance.  2 litres of h20 I will now commence to drink. cheers

Hello lioness, The formula most here go with on drinking water is , take your overall body weight , divide it in 1/2, then convert that in to ounces. Say you weigh 200 pounds divided in 1/2 = 100 pounds converted to ounces = 100 ounces. Onehundred ounces of water a day for a 200 pound person.

Yikes, now your talking in pounds! I feel a cultural divide!  Look, I weigh 60kg and I drink about 1.5 to 2 litres per day, which is the normal amount you should drink, but how much should I bump that up to without getting hyponatraemic and completely bored from drinking.  Anyone in here know how to cannulate?  Maybe It'll be easier to get hooked up to a drip overnight. LOL.

lioness-
60k equals about 132 lbs.(which means you should drink about 66ounces or 1.95 liters of water on tx. If you are in a hot climate or doing anything that dehyrdrates you faster you should  drink more. For instance exercise or if I have a cup of coffee(which dehydrates us) I add 8 ounces(.23 liters) to what I drink in water that day. The hyponatraemia I don't know about although a quick look on the web said it has to do with sodium levels in the plasma. Never really heard of it before.
Be well,
Don

I used try drinking a lot earlier in tx, but started wondering if it was only going to flush the drugs out faster. Not sure about that, but I probably get through a one and a half to two of those 750ml bottles of water a day. Is that a lot?
Google is great for conversions, you can enter (eg) 750ml in oz, basically any unit of measure and it'll spit out the answer.
Perhaps someone has a scientific reason for drinking a lot of water, something more than the ribavirin - that dries you out for sure.

Hey guys, another thing.. I read in here about the importance of drinking a ton of water.  How many litres per day would that be?  (I don't understand the ounce concept)  I try to drink when ever I am thirsty. but really that is all the time, so I get bored with doing that pretty quickly.  Has anyone had hyponatraemia from drinking too much? Or is that not a risk in our case.

Interferon provokes an immune response, hence the fever.  After my first shot my temp soared to 38.1 (aussie speak) and then I had a low grade temp (37.4) for the next few days. panadol helped.  The next week I just got the low grade temp for a day and since then nothing.  If fever persists or gets above 39, talk to a doc, otherwise its probably just a chemically induced immune response. Good luck!

Welcome , tellyour husband how sorryI am  for him. The others are right , he may have caught a bug. It's bad enough being on the meds let alone get sick on top of that. Keep posting as issues arrive, most here are experienced with the sx's and issues relating to tx.

Roaming believe me your husband CAN DO THIS.  I'm sure you've seen us all say it's not fun but it's DOABLE.  Most likely his body will get more used to the Interferon (sounds odd huh getting used to poison!) and then that flu fever stuff should abate somewhat.

Did he take any tylenol?  You know he should take tylenol before the shot to counter act it (we are allowed to take tylenol in real moderation).

Once that problem is gone others are likely to start to pop up.  But as you see they come and go and you have to persevere and just keep on going. The anemia is the real kicker - it can be VERY devastating so please keep an eye on that.

I meant it before when I said how lucky he is.  I wish I had someone besides my kids and my mom and dad LOL to love me and care enough to be online reading and learning like you are.

It's a SMART move on your part - the more you learn about the disease the more you are ready to combat the things that go on and beat them.  And THAT makes you powerful over the disease and THAT is a great feeling!  :)

Thank you,
I have been here reading for a few weeks now. Trying to find out ways to help him cope. I saw that you went und. I am very happy for you as it appears to have been a long fight for you. I really do wish you all the best. Just reading your posts makes me feel better for my husband that he can do this.

He had a bad cold the week before. Actually he put off tx for a week to get rid of it. The dr office did ask if he still had a fever today but is still sticking with "this is normal".

Hey Dyce, good to see you're hanging in there. I got the flu within a couple of weeks of starting as well, was strange, hadn't had it for years then was floored for a few days. Then the anemia set in big time, felt bad for ages. Ended up with bronchitis, antibiotics, the usual. Was winter over here - cold, wet and crappy. Good to hear you got over it pretty quick.
I wondered if it was the promised "flu-like symptoms" but decided that it was probably the real thing.
Shot 46 last night, looking forward to the end of this, been dragging on. The last few shots have been really mild, hardly noticed them at all. Headache this morn, will be feeling heavy and tired at work today. The usual.
Are you going for a 4 week test? I never got one, but charted out the ALT/LFT's with my nurse, showed a big reduction almost immediately after starting, so I hope that was a sign of early response. Look forward to hearing how you go, take it easy.

Ha lat, I do believe it to be the flu because my daughter was off school a couple days last week with it, I believe she caught at school. I'm not getting the 4week pcr, being a geno 1-a and low grade and 0 stage bx results ,I'm waiting until the 12th week. If I don't get the 2 log drop or clear by then I'll probably wait on the new drugs to come out. I feel the drugs are working because thier making me feel pretty rough. The way I look at it , if thease drugs I'm on now are working at 12 weeks we'll proceed, if not ,I'm not gonna put my self thru hell for nothing and we'll hope for the new drugs to work at killing this virus.

Good Luck on your last few shots, Dyce

I get the numb fingers too - and boy oh boy they are numb like the tips just completely fall asleep in a second on both hands. VERY annoying.

I am a 1A and 1B both - finally at week 24 got Undetectible so much is said for not giving up!  The effects of the Interferon should get better and better in time until it's not that bad at all. Be careful though because the anemia can creep in and THAT will level you. Make sure he's having regular CBCs to read his hemoglobin levels. It's not just how low it goes but also how fast. The ONLy thing that almost made me think of quitting was the anemia but luckily the rescue drugs (Procrit and Epogen) work like a miracle.  Only they take a few weeks to kick in.

He is very lucky to have you :)

Sweety how could you have a fever? I mean with all that icecream and frozen fudgebars you eat you never let a good fever get started.

thank you for your comments. He is a 1a, stage 3, vl 4.5 mil. He was a little light headed, Sat, morning and his fingers were numb for about 40 mins. Sat. night. All that passed quickly, It is just the fever that has caused trouble. Hopefully better this week.
Is it Dale_ray as in fl.?

I only had a fever once really...it lasted a few hours then went away.  I've really not had the "flu" side effect that you can get but I've had all the others LOL

Sorry I can't help you more but I wanted you to know someone will come in who has had this side and let you know what was common for THEM.

Everybody's body handles this different - oh by the way none of us are doctors but we do have HepC.

When I stated treatment I'd have a fever for a couple of hours the next day and maybe even the next but now 17 shots later I am not having fever. First 12 weeks were the worst in my case. Hep C, 1A with mild fibrosis and starting Vl of 1.5M. Good luck and tell him to hang in there it gets better for most people. Dale
