How soon?

by maggie95, Nov 03, 2009 05:31PM
Does anyone have any idea when rx, like possibly Vertex 950 will be on the market and available to the public with Hep C? How much longer until meds are out?
Thanks,
Maggie

from everything I hear it will be 2011 for Vertex to hit the market.

That's the same date I have seen in articles for Teleprevir's projected release.  Boceprevir, the other protease inhibitor due to be released, is on about the same timeline.

Why is it everytime I hear about these two medications the release date changes?

I thought it was two years nearly two years ago.

Today, I was told by a Mayo Clinic trained heptologist that he thinks it will be released

within the next year and maybe even a little sooner.
.
Unfortunately, I can't verify this information. I'd like to see it in writing.

I also asked another " hepatologist" and he gave me a later date. However, the

person who was with me said the second doctor was not impressive and

seemed a little dated. I thought the same thing, but I would not want to base anything

on "'appearance."

My regular doctor is out sick and has had surgery so I can't ask him. He is considered

at the top of his game. He heads a department at a hospital and university. He's

almost like a computer when it comes to hep c info.

I really was told two years ago at least 18-20 months ago by another top doctor.

Maybe someone out there can give us a link to some factual, documented info.

Stay tuned...

I don't think there is any more concrete info, probably because Vertex can't know exactly how long the FDA approval process will take.  I believe they have been saying for a while now that they expect it to be approved in 2011.

Gosh, thanks for all your replies...it seemed a year ago that most sources thought it'd be in 2010, but looks like it may be a little longer...gee, well, can't wait for the day.
Thanks to you all.

Since we don't know for sure why not think sooner rather than later.

Your glass might just be half full.

With all the recent news about FDA approval on drugs that have had hidden side effects, from what I hear, they (FDA) are slowing things down to make sure that what is approved is safe.  Not good news for those waiting for new meds but understandable given the litigenous society we now live in.  On a more positive note, from listening to one of the web casts by vertex, it seems we will get it before Europe does.
