How to prove....

My question is under these circumstances how is this possible?

First husband has Hep C. Left him in 1998, I Tested Neg then.
Retested in 2002, again Neg
Retested in 2004, again Neg

Only my current relationship/soon to be X, from 2003-now

He tested Neg and I tested positive (Oct 9th 2008) for this, and now aI also have a STD, from his hired hookers...great...But he claims that they were no others prior to the 2 in late Sept and Oct 7.  I HAVE NOT slept with him after the two dates of his disgusting affairs.

I used his razors and toothbrush several times while away form home etc....

How and Why.....anybody?

Well, all i can say is, are you 100% sure he tested neg? test could have been wrong. The fact that you say that you have gotten an STD.. are u talking about HCV or another STD? Razors and toothbrushes can transmit a blood virus. The risk of HCV from sex is very low, however when there is another STD involved the risk from what I read is higher.

You can get HCV from many sources --- SEX IS ONE OF THE LEAST POSSIBLE --- it is possible --- but rare and requires blood interaction.

If you've had any types of shots --- especially gamma globulin (Rhogam) or other blood products... Had any dental work or surgeries --- you could have gotten the virus...

STDs happen too --- Now --- AN STD is quite possibly what you picked up from him --- and the HCV from somewhere else.

You don't have to have done drugs to have HCV.

Thanks for the reply.  I did also get Herpes 2 from his as well.  I have had dental work etc..but I would think that would be less likely to be the cause as they do use protection and obviously he does not.  I have no idea how many times over the years he das done this.

Can I test Neg those times and have been Positive for all those times and testing dates/years?   I was only with my current husband from the seperation of my 1st husband. (98)

First HCV is such a low risk to get sexually it is not considered a STD. I am curious why where you getting tested for HCV after your first marriage? What happened that made you think you needed tested?

HCV has to be from blood to blood contact not other body fluids. If your second to be x had sex with you and and out break of herpes 2 and you had a some sore in the vagina or area around you could have gotten it if if sores where bleeding. I think you would have noticed that. I do know a some who more than likely got it from a dentist with unclean practices. Not properly cleaning of tools.  In Nevada a medical clinic was closed because they where reusing the same syringe and only changing the needles and the bottles with meds where not clean they reused. It is more likey to get it from your dentist than sexual contact unless you are having some kind of rough circus sex with.

At this point you can only guess where you got it. You need to not worry so much about that and look into what you can do to keep it from progressing. Unless you feel a need to check into th x lieiting and being positive and spreading the virus with his slutty unsafe  sex activities. Good Luck.

Seems several years back there was concern about nail technicians ability to spread HCV because they don't/can't sterilize all their tools. Claim was also that the tech could abrade the cuticle providing a nice fresh open area for any viral or bacterial problems to be passed along.
Might be minor, I don't know, but I threw it out there anyway.
It sounds troubling enough to find out for sure if the diagnosis is correct, but so necessary.  Hang in there and keep us posted.

Tiy said you and husband 2 were tested. I assume that you were both tested with the HCV antibody test since this is the usual first-line test to detect the disease.  If so, then you obviously did not get it from him since he doesn't have it to give. You cannot have HCV and then later test negative. Even after successful treatment to eradicate the virus, a previously infected person will always test positive.

Actually, it unlikely that hubby 2 got HCV from his sexual encounter. Dental work, surgery, tatoos, etc. are all more likely causes.

I tested negative in 1992 for HCV. Turns out they accidentally ordered a herpes 2 test for me. They realized that in 1995 when I tested again for HCV and this time tested positive. I did IV drugs in the 80's, so no surprise really.

If you ever did IV drugs, I bet that is where you got your HCV from, and the truth would be that those tests you had in 1998 and the early 2000's were simply wrong.

There are people with hep C who never did IV drugs of course, but the rest of us, let's just admit it, it is a pretty safe bet the IV drugs is how we got it. Let's stop hiding behind nail clippers and toothbrushes and such. If we were brave enough to shoot that sh!t in us, we can be brave enough to admit it.

Know what's really ironic?  I did use IV drugs back in the 'good ol' bad ol' days' but I ended up with Hep C due to a blood transfusion in 1985 at a hospital in Alaska!  Four other patients were also contaminated, or so public health up here thinks.  I dunno, and really ... I don't even care anymore.  I have it.  The end.  

I don't mind telling anyone about what I ued to do except maybe for a few doctors who seem to think that if you used stuff once, you are ALWAYS at risk to use again, which I find to be ridiculous.  I did many stupid things when I was young and 'knew more than God' --- but I'm over 50 now and I certainly don't do that **** anymore!  Since I have chronic pain from several diseases, including chronic polyneuropathy (big OUCH), I cannot tell the pain mgmt docs about my past.  I've tried and end up without proper pain mgmt!  So ... I went to different doctors, did NOT tell of my past, and what do you know?!  I got the pain mgmt meds I needed, and which, of course, I did NOT and DO not abuse.  People need to get off their high horses about addiction(s).

I can't stand those who say once an addict, always an addict.  That's just stupid to me.  Maybe for SOME people it might apply, but I'll bet you dollars to donuts, it does NOT apply to most of us.  I think we tend to outgrow some things as we age, including the use of illicit drugs.  I believe there is even a very long and large study somewhere that shows this, too. I remember reading about it in a grad-level psych course textbook a few years ago.

BTW, my Hep C doc told me that it was far more likely to pass the virus on to someone else through your toothbrush than any other way besides shared needles.  So buy a distinctive brush for yourself and get a plastis brush cover, and USE IT so other family members don't accidently acquire the virus.  He also said, it is NOT an STD.
