How to reduce abdominal fluid retention?

by BobPaul, Nov 19, 2008 08:37PM
Hi,

my mother in law's is 62 years old liver has harden. She goes more frequently to the hospital now. The doctor says her water pills do not help much anymore.

She is taking Lasix as a water pill.

Anything else that we could try to reduce the excess fluid?

Is it normal that she has to go weekly to the hospital to get rid of the water retention?

Thanks.

stop using ALL salt and anything with sodium in it. eat a liver friendly diet, i.e. low fat, no meat, no sugar. light exercise. Is your mom on the transplant list? make sure she is seeing a hepatologist (liver doc) wishing her the best
