Hurricane Charley and Friday the 13th

Well, here goes nothing!  I, along with a lot of other heppers, live smack dab in the middle of the west coast of Florida. I live 5 miles south of Clearwater, about a block from the water.  I'm not in an evacuation zone for flooding as I'm about 50 feet above sea level, but the winds should be something else.  Wish us all luck!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, they ordered 60 body bags for a mobile home park in Punta Gorda.. This is for people who refused to evacuate..
I have a good friend, that I haven't been able to reach, living in Punta Gorda..His wife is eight months pregnant, and they where right on the water.. I hope all is well with him, and I talk to him soon!!! He didn't think it was coming at them, and got a direct hit..
The west coast of Florida has alot of mobile homes, and premanufactured houses, so they are reporting lots of damage.. Nothing at all close to the devastation of Andrew..
Man, I hope my buddy and his wife are well..
Hope all you Gulf Coasters are alright..

You are right.  A mobile home park was hit.  Numbers aren't comfirmed, but at least 60 suspected dead.  Unbeleivable.

There were 60 body bags ordered and are
being brought into Punta Gorda.
They are having a hard time making their way to the
area because of the devastation of the area.
I guess they won't know whats what til they get into
the area.
Just unbelievable.  I think partly to blame for the loss of life is the media and meteorologists saying it would take aim at Tampa.
Just horrible.

So far, I am hearing of three dead, two of those in auto accidents attributed to the storm.  This is as of 7:45 am, Saturday.

Punta Gorda got hit hard!  I just heard many are dead.
As the media put it "Stacks of dead" I just hate the media!
It was an extremely strong storm (almost as strong as Andrew)
so you knew there was going to be devastation.  Gosh,
I remember Andrew clearly with it's winds at landfall
165mph gusts to 180mph. Pressure was like 935mb and my eardrums felt like they were going to burst!!
It's true, you almost do feel guilty that you were spared the brunt. Charley is on a search and destroy mission it seems.
Now we must watch TS Danielle and TD#5 while others are still watching Charley.
I hope everyone is OK

last minute update:
It was supposed to hit the Tampa Area but has taken a jog to the north east. It looks like it will hit south of here around the Ft. Myers area and go across the state towards Orlando. I had several friends go to Orlando to get out of the way, just goes to show how unpredictable these things are.

We'll still get some wind/rain tonight but I'm hoping it won't be too bad. I have to do my shot tonight and hope I won't have too much cleanup this weekend, lol. I did mow my yard while waiting around today.

So far the worst part is been boredom. We've been sitting around eating junkfood and watching all the local talking heads do the obligatory field report " Hi Steve, it's not bad yet but you better look out" Bah, I don't know why local stations just have to send their people out to the beach to report. They'll get some reporter injured one of these days.
Peace and keep your head down.

Just a Q. for you. At what point, and how do they decide that Hep C goes from being acute to chronic? Joni

Excellent question. I wonder the same thing.  How much time do we give our body to fight it off before deciding hcv is winning?

I second that.   Please check in, y'all, and let us know how you are.  May the Force be with you.

Acute episodes of HCV are considered chronic after 6 to 9 months.   There's a good review on http://hepc.challenge.org .

Just saw on the news that Charley hit land at Sanibel Island, not far from Ft Meyers.  It's a category 4 now.

Wishing you all the best and BE SAFE!!!!!!!

All good here, just waiting for the storms.  Yes, it hit Captiva Island, about 160 miles south of here.  The evacuations are still in place because of feeder bands that may cause tornadoes.  Right now it is over Punta Gorda, heading for cape Canavril and is still a catagory 4, expected to go to a 3 soon. Andrew was a 5.  Pray for all those folks who got a direct hit.

Wish you guys the best of luck!! Took a turn right smack into Port Charlotte and Punta Gorda.. 145mph winds, and news report here just showed a ten foot wall of water hit shore..
100 residents are stranded on Captiva and Sanibel Island.. No rescue teams will move in for hours.. They have been getting distress calls from residents that refused to leave..
By the way, this is only 145 mph, and at the eye, they are only still reporting 100mph or so sustained winds..
Hurricane Andrew was category 5, sustained winds of 180, gusts to 230mph!!! Huge difference, damage over there will be mostly power outages, downed trees, and flooding.. Miami, during Andrew was flattened..Nothing was left standing!!!
I hope everyone over there is well protected, and I wish you ALL the best..

We got all ready for the hurricaine (plywood on the windows, plants in, trash cans in, shed secured, gazebo tarp removed, sand bagged and now we get to reverse the process. I'm glad it did not hit Tampa Bay. The damage in other areas looks terrible. God bless everyone in its path but Tampa Bay dodged another bullet.
Yea,

It's tigerpants here..
Alls well up here in my area (northwest Pasco County).
We never  had as much as a decent breeze. Maybe 1/4" rain.
I feel terrible for those that took the hit.  No word yet on 2 of the  stores my hubby manages in Polk County. One near WInter Haven other near Lakeland.

Let's send all available good vibes to those that will have to pick up the pieces.

For me.. tonight will be sleep with no worries .. unlike  last night, worried with no sleep !

Glad it wasn't raining Brain Frogs !
