Do you have hepatitis C? I'm not sure I understand your concern as this is a hepatitis C forum and vitamin D has nothing to do with hep C. Many people have low levels of vitamin D and I know that can be a concern with osteoporosis, especially in females. Does your dcoctor want to give you extra vitamin D + calcium? That is what I take. It's called Caltrate D-600 and the normal dose is 1 pill twice daily with food..

I do have hep c and my doctor has me on vitamin d pills I have to take them once a week.

If you are black you have a natural sun block.  But, blocking the sun’s rays affects the skin’s ability to activate the -vitamin D.  Although, many more folks are experiencing this I believe it is more common with black skin.

The doctor that prescribed the Vit D, is he/she your hep C doctor as well?  If not make sure the hep C doc knows about the vit D.

My vitamin D levels were also low and I was prescribed VitD + calcium while I was still on treatment. I am still taking them and they are monitoring my levels. It is very important to have adequate vit D levels.

I read that inadequate vitamin D levels can affect blood sugar. I had some liquid vitamin D I hadn't used in  months, used it, and my sugar levels came back to normal.
However, my doctor still doesn't buy it.

Vit. D is important. Get out and get some rays!

I'm not on treatment now (waiting for new drugs), but the doctor has me on 400iu per day of vitamin D and wants me to stay on that dosage...
