I have 2 questions that I have been putting off asking.........

Does anyone have a problem bending their toes?  It happened while on tx and now 2 months post tx I still can not bend my toes and if I'm on my feet to long they hurt.

Also, does anyone know how long procrit stays in the body after you stop taking it?

Thanks

Beagle

Yes, That's it! That is what I am going through so it must be the tx as you never took procrit.  Now we need to find out why this is happening to us.  I looked at the papers that came with the meds and the say nothing about toes.

No I'm not on Procrit. I did take a lot of that stuff (2.5 years) so it could be related. I haven't taken Procrit (I took Epogen but it's the same drug) since June 2004 so if it is the cause cessation isn't the cure. I never dreamed anyone else had this because of TX and related drugs but your post makes me wonder. You experienced bone pain, as did I, and apparently that is not a common side as far as our members would indicate. Let me work on this for a while. Mike

beagle, I think you are on to something here.  I don't think it is the Procrit, but perhaps the length of time having anemia.  I think 5 weeks is too long for it to be side effects from Procrit

When I googled rigid toes I came up with hammer toes.  I am pretty familiar with that because my son has them.  The muscles under the toes shorten, causing the toes to curl under. It can cause problems all up the spine. Now here is what is weird -- I have been noticing callus or soreness on the ends of my toes and as I think about it, do think I am curling my toes. (my son is adopted, so this is not a genetic thing).  Perhaps all the cramping -which is a result of the anemia - has caused the muscles under the toes to shorten.

I am going to research further what the long-term effects of anemia are.  You with your thallessima have suffered for a long time but got a stuppendous jolt of anemia during treatment.  I hav been anemic for about a year.

let's try to keep in touch with this and bring up the topic again -- meanwhile i will do some looking

I know this is going to sound wierd, but there really is only two ways you can go..

You can have your wife suck your toes nightly for two weeks.  This should be adequate.... at least to give you a thrill if not to stimulate your feet.

There is an ongoing study that suggests repeated application of smegma to other stiffening members.... is sure to make them gross too....

I'm glad the itching will stop, but
I am getting into a 'habit' if I don't
itch.....I scratch anyway...scares are appearing..
seriously sad..
close to the end, and now sx are worse, as we have
discovered.

my brother and son have diabetes
my brother has trouble with fingers and toes
my son not yet...just seizures

Yeah right, that would go over good. Out would come the hatchett and i wouldn't have to worry about bending my toes.

Isn't your hubby scared to be around you?

Sorry to hear bout the toes but I can relate.  Do you still get the weird leg pain/feelings at night?

I have one toe that I can't raise because of my back.  Since tx tho it is worse now that I think about it.  Weren't you on a lot of Procrit?  I'm on 120 a week for just a bit longer.  Last Peg shot tonight.

Hope your toes come back to you soon!

LOL LOL LOL I still can't laughing on this one, hope can do see this. For the wife this would really be a way to pay me back for something she'll think up in her head and it won't be sucking my toes for 2 weeks.  Who knows she might bring in some wild beast to do it, which we have many in FLorida's swamps.  ;)

Want to hear what can do man has to say about this.  LOL

Sounds like mild neuropathy, kids.   So listen to the Fishdoc--sensory stimulus of any kind, toe sucking, walking on air, all good.   Not much out there to help, except B vitamins and lotsa fish & borage oil to counter nerve inflammation, unless it gets really bad and you have to go the anticonvulsant route, prescription drugs having the tendency to beget the need for more prescription drugs, and so on.  Homemade convulsions are more fun anyway...

There was a thread a while back in which the risk/reward ratio of a vigorous game of "This Little Piggy" was discussed at length - would that be an appropriate therapy, in your opinion? Mike

Will sucking toes help with hot feet too?
Blank
Avatar_n_tn
yes, it will help... it will either
1) provide for evaporative ac
2) get everything else heated up so you don't notice your toes are hot..

two good questions and I would like to know the answer to both.  All thru tx and most particularly at the end, I have had horrendous cramping in my feet -especially arches and toes.  almost every night i wake up and have to put my feet flat. almost every night it takes a long time to find a comfortable position for my feet.  My toes just get rigid.  so far, no rigidity during the day, but I can see that to be a possiblity.  You don't have diabetes do you?  Have you lost sensitivity in your toes?  Maybe the blood flow is bad.  No answers, just more questions.

Blank
Avatar_m_tn
When it comes to fishy, if i were her hubby id sleep with both eyes open. Im not thinking of it has toe therapy but maybe sumin else though. You read what my wife thought of it. Dare to ask yours?
Blank

there seems to be the general consensus that toes are the only getting.... arthritic these days.....

ya gotta watch that fishdoc - she's a smart cookie.  I know what my hubby would say if I ask him to suck my toes........ think I'll try anyway. Just try to dangle those toes in the catfish tank!

thanks for the tip Califia - think I will get that vitamin B12 even tho my levels are okay.  Can't hurt.  Hemo doc says subliminal (under the tongue - is that the right word) is good).

Fishdoc just might be related to lorena bobbit. And we all know the end of that story.

I have not yet begun tx, yet also have a toe bending problem.  Actually, I can bend them, but they feel tight and stiff, with cramps going from the toes to the arch of my foot.  Possibly this is from the hcv itself, or maybe it's from wearing clogs too much.  (love my Danskos)

I am so sorry to hear of your problem.  I did get mild muscle spasms, but not for very long. Almost like when I was pregnant, toes to the nose kind of thing to unlock the spasm.  But never stiff where I could not bend them.

I keep trying to tell you an can do and a few others to go get your arses pampered. LOL  Find you a good spa, make an appt. to get your hands and feet dipped in wax and then a massage.  I am so relaxed after all that, I can not even arc an eyebrow.  My favorite place is Burke Williams Spa.  Not the least expensive place but well worth it.  Oh Yeah!!!! Bring your wife along with you, I believe they have double rooms for couples.  Have a facial and complete body exfoliation of dead skin.  After all that we went through, your body deserves this.  And, the wife too.

Hope your toes are not a serious thing and it will correct itself.

You should see my raccoon eye after fainting at about 3:00am last Saturday.  It just keeps getting worst.  I really look like a freak these days.  All I can do is laugh.  Tonight is shot 33/48.  15 left to go.

Paris, LOL the itching will stop soon.

Mike-- Though it was just me as I never saw it mentioned here before and I didn't want to take up a thread but now I see there are those with the same problem.  Are you on procrit?

Friole, I had the same problem durning the end of tx with the legs and feet.  Would get up all night even though I took Lunesta, couldn't find a comfortable position.  No, I don't have a problem with blood flow or diabetes.

Does any one know if the procrit could do it and how long it takes to leave the body?  My last procrit shot was 5 weeks ago.

I've always read that beagles have weak toes and need to be ran in the woods alot to keep them limber. It's all the weight you've gained and the energy you have used growing that hair back. My toes ache every single night. I stretch so much with the pain that I've grown an inch in height. I hope this problem settles down for you. You are due a break my friend. Good luck.

Avatar_m_tn
LOL MY wife already does all that now.  She loves spas!!!  In my case don't think it will work.  Some how I think it has to do with procrit but that's just a guess.

yes, i have noticed that during tx and 9 weeks post tx i am having difficulty bending my toes, especially my big toe. they feel like they are stiff or something. i figured it's probably arthritis creeping up on me. as for procrit, i never took it so i can't answer that question.

I think Dale is right. Those ol' doggie toes just need some walking in the woods! Fisheress?

A toe thread, hmmmm, interesting. A few weeks ago the bottoms of my feet started hurting. They felt hot and hurt like hell. I ended up putting ice packs on the bottoms of my feet. This was all very strange, but of course, I blamed it on tx. I haven't had it since, but wondered if anyone else has had this?

let me get this straight (no pun), some parts become stiff and unyielding while others that should, don't?  maybe we can rearrange things so that those parts can take the function of the non working ones?

friole, I still get that strange 'cramping' of the arch of ONE foot, once in a while.

while on tx, it seems as if the nervous system (all of it) becomes hypersensitive, and enhanced.  Every little thing can be felt big time.  Minty toothpaste felt like burns in my mouth, stepping on cold felt like frostbite, while stepping on hot felt like a 3rd degree burn!  Any nutrient known to assist the nervous system should be considered (vit B complex as suggested).   I don't think it is the Procrit after 5 wks.  Maybe is the lack of excercise during tx, and the oxygen issue. after all, the human body withdraws oxygen and nutrients from the extremities in order to supply the brain in times of need.  The brain comes first in the first aid dept.

its funny you posted this ? ..i went to have a pedicure yesterday to relax and the woman kept trying to bend my big toe and it wouldn't budge..afterwards it kept having like jerky movements all night..today seems okay so far..

Hey Beag.  I've had pain/stiffness in wrists, toes, and hips.  Terrible the first 2 post weeks and have gradually gotten better over time (now about 10 weeks post).  My doc says it could be the interferon OR the Procrit and "most of the time" it eventually goes away.

Califia, I never tried toe stimulation to reduce the stiffness but I'm going to place a classified ad right away.

You should write an article for Health magazine on the virtues of homemade convulsions as opposed to pharmaceutically-made convulsions.  I think you're on to something.

Alg.

Wow, I thought it was only me and that minty toothpaste! Also walking around the hot cement in Jamacia could have likely caused my burning/hurting feet. I didn't feel it for hours though.

As far as oxygen getting to the brain first, I have my doubts. These days there seems to be very little oxygen getting through to my brain.

Yes, I agree sometimes it's better that way. I can lay around all day and it doesn't bother me, cuz' by the end of the day when I don't remember what I did, no worries!
