can-do-man is right. because of half life you could actually take the daily doses all at one time. The reason they don't is that much Riba could cause stomach upset.
Thanks guys,
I'll pass this on to my friend.
I was also given the green by my doctor to take them 6 to 8 hours apart if i wanted to. As was noted by desrt the half life is so long one could take them at anytime during the day........ The main reason it's morning and evening is due to possible stomach issues.

"Upon multiple dosing there is extensive accumulation in plasma, and steady state is achieved by approximately 4 weeks. Because of slow elimination of ribavirin from nonplasma compartments, the multiple dose half-life is approximately 298 hours. "
The theory is because of ribavirin's long half life, there's no need to take it 12 hours apart.
Five hours isn't the norm. I was having trouble sleeping when I took it with dinner. And I checked with the nurse, NP and my hepatologist about taking it so close together, all said it was fine as long as I take it with a meal. So I take it with breakfast and a late lunch. Now I sleep like a baby.
I think 12 hours was the protocol. Docs get stuck in routines.
Hi OH,
I have brain fog right now, so I can't research. But I know the protocol is 12 hours apart. However......because of dose reductions, I was also on them 3x per day, 6 hours apart & 12 hours apart. So:
7:00 am
1:00 pm
7:00 pm
Try this site I hope it helps...but I've never heard of anyone taking 5 hours apart for me it was every 12 hours.
