I was just Diagnosised - how common are false postives?

In getting ready to have another child I went in for screning and my HVC test came bacl with a > than 11 co/p level.  I am screwed right?  I got the next blood drawn and they are telling me it will be until Friday at the earliest b4 i know if i have the definite results.  The waiting si killing me.

I want to tell my wife, but dont want her to worry if this is all a non event.  the high level of the test means I am full blown or my body fought the virus off.....

How common are flase positives?  Any one?  I am loosing it.....

If you’re HCV antibody s c/o was >11.0, there is a 95% chance it is true positive for exposure.

However, around 20% of those that were actually exposed to the virus will clear spontaneously during the acute phase of infection (initial six months of infection). The remaining 80% will go on to develop chronic infection.

Your health care provider likely ordered the ‘HCV RNA by PCR’ test; this checks for presence of active RNA virus; without a positive RNA result you cannot be diagnosed with HCV.

Until you get the results of the PCR test, it’s best to avoid drinking alcohol, as well as sharing personal health care items like toothbrushes, clippers, etc.

HCV is rarely transmitted through sexual intercourse; just so you know.

Best of luck; let us know how things work out—
