I am a non responder to Pegasus and switched after 4 months and have been on infergen for almost 2 months. It is working and I feel blessed just wondering how other people get by when it feels like you just can't get a moment of relief getting up to grab my son from getting into things is a challenge. I'm ready to give up please help on how you made it through....

Oh my gosh, I am so very sorry to hear you are having such a rough time.  Is there anyone who who could help you?
I was on Incivek, Peg and Riba and I do not know how I would have taken care of children feeling as bad as you do.  I took it one day at a time, sometimes one step at a time.  I had the tx in my mind all the time and just focused on that.
I think you should talk to the doctor and explain what is happening.
Do you mind if I ask what your biopsy showed?  Some with little damage have chosen to wait for better medications.
Again so sorry

Hi Mercyfish,
My husband was on daily injections of Infergen and 1400 mg of Ribavirin in 2010.  This was a very, very difficult treatment, probably the most difficult of the three treatments that he has undergone.  I am sorry that you are having to experience daily Infergen, especially since you have the responsibility of three children at home as well.
My husband made it through 12 weeks of this difficult treatment.  It didn't work for him.  It lowered his viral load by the required 2 log drop, but then it didn't drop further, so he was considered a partial responder.  He became anemic and required Procrit injections.  His white count dropped, so he also required Neupogen injections.  He took anti nausea medication to help with the dizziness and nausea.  He also took an antidepressant to help with the anxiety/irritability.  How did he make it through?  Just by taking it day by day.  He really had to push through that treatment, because it was very tough.  I empathize with you.
Do you have anyone that you can call to come and help at home?
If the side effects become too difficult, I would agree with willbb, if you are Genotype 1, you may want to talk to your doctor about trying triple tx (weekly injections of Interferon, Ribavirin, and one of the new protease inhibitors either Telaprevir or Boceprevir).  These are also tough treatments, but they do increase your chances of clearing Hep C.
Best wishes,

Sorry to hear about how you ae struggling on the daily "infer-gen"
This drug is known to be somewhat harsher than the Pegasus  or Pegintron, however sometimes effective when neither of  the above were

That drug is rarely used now ,as you may know, with the advent of triple thrapy  (INF/.RIBA and either Victrelis or Incivek.)

The triple therapy mentioned is only FDA approved for Geno type 1 and I am wondering if you are possibly another type?

I can only imagine how challenging it must be to be with 3 little ones..Is there someone that you can have help you during this time?

Have you discussed with your doctor the side effects you are experiencing and  is he /she working with you on modalities for relief?

I wish you the best...I do know that particular drug can be challenging..

Will
