INTERFERON AND AVM

Dear Friends,

I need an important information about treatment of hepatitis c.
my mom is affected by hepatitis c. she is a neuro patient having arterio venal malformation(AVM). It is partially treated by embolization (50% treated)and now she is taking neuro medicines like, carbamazipine, flumarizine, valporic acid and sodium valporate. she is now fine and stable with no neuro or hepatic problems.

Her ALT and AST are in normal range and i wanted to treat her before its too late. I know about hepatitis c very well as I lost my father two years ago to hepatitis c. Prob. my mother got it from my father.

My worst worry is whether she can withstand INTERFERON? Any body have any experience, news, information about giving interferon to an AVM patient? Its very much confusing and worrying for me to decide. Please help me in this matter.

Hi and welcome to the forum!  Your mom's treatment is something your mom and you need to talk to a doctor about.  She should ask for a referral to a hepatologist (a specialist that treats hepatitis) if at all possible.  They are located in teaching hospitals primarily.  The interferon and ribavirin combo therapy can be really rough with some really bad side effects.  There are no doctors here, just patients.  I am really sorry about your dad, and wish you and your mom the best.
