You must be new to the board and don't realize yet that we're only allowed six threads per day.  Rather than opening two threads to ask about milk thistle and vitamin C, it would have been better to combine those questions into one thread.  Don't feel bad, I made the same mistake when I was new to the board a couple of months ago.

Another thing to consider is to put the subject of the actual question in the subject line. That way, its much easier for people who don't read everything to find the questions they are interested in or can answer.

Funny, but my hubby does not seem to be directly affected by his low platelet count. He works hard in construction everyday and other then needing (wanting) a nap occasionally he very rarely complains about feeling weak or dizzy. We are both geno type 2 and he is hitting his half way mark soon, don't know how these 1/2 doses are going to translate when he gets complete blood work done shortly. Anybody have any guesses???

Hi all, I'm on combination treatment, week #17 of (Pegasys) Pegulated Intrerferon + Ribavirin ... I'm 45 yrs old a Geno 3a .... Now here's my problem & it is something I've had even before Tx started ... My left leg & ankle has a swollen look & feel, if I press it I get an imprint, it's obviously fluid I guess, but why only in my left leg, is it a Hep-c thing I'm wondering .... Can any other HCV people please tell me if your left leg is the same as mine.  It's worse sometimes than others, I don't know what makes it better/worse. In fact, when it is a bad day if I stand back from our long mirror I can actualy see that my left leg is bigger in thickness than my right leg ... Honest, it is noticably thicker in girth or diameter ... Any comments please... I'm concerned</font>

Have you ever injured that leg? I broke my left ankle once and it gets a little swollen when  I have to stay on my feet all day.

while on tx my left leg, then left arm, and then right leg all puffed up in less than two weeks.. there first guess was congestive heart failure, which proved to be more right than wrong-----after five months of diurics[pee pills]only my left leg is retaining water. so PLEASE tell the doc--remember the best thing he can say is "there is nothing wrong"        roy

Thanks for your replies, I havent injured my leg in the past, apart from varicose veins but again only on my left leg, strange hey ... maybe thats it, the varicose veins causes the fluid in my left leg ...I will tell the doctor, I should get to the bottom of this, it really worries me & who needs extra worries while on Interferon + Riba, right! Thanks Again</font>

vitamin c should be fine for the liver. i take it all the time.  buffered vitamin c.   non acidic.
couch potato,   are you talking about taking 1/2 doses of treatment?  are they keeping it at full dose of riba?   1/2 doses should do it if its not too long.  i know of someone who got remission from 1/2 dose almost the whole treatment- a 2b.
dr. told me that riba seems to help protect platelet destruction.  thats why i asked about the riba.
steve  you should point out your leg problem to your dr.   i developed a large numb area in one of my legs during tx.  its almost gone now after tx.

My feet and ankles swell a lot, as do my hands and often my face.  However, my left foot is general swollen more often than my right.  Yesterday, I thought I had no swelling at all, but as soon as I put my left shoe on, I knew differently--it was much too tight.  I had a crush injury to my left foot a few years ago, so that may be the reason, although other areas that haven't been hurt, like my right foot, often swell too.

I know when I had hepA decades ago, one of the early symptoms was incredible swelling of feet, ankles, and a very painful aching of joints and muscles to where I couldn't get out of bed.  It was 6 mos before the nausea and jaundice showed up. I didn't know I was sick, and went on a peace march in chicago.  Later, I couldn't get my boots off due to swelling and pain.  When I finally did, I couldn't get them back on.  It was awful.  I seem to think that such swelling goes along with liver problems.

Yes, he is on his full Riba meds and has been only able to take 1/2 doses of the interferon for the past month. So happy to know of someone clearing with these specs. Thanks

steve, i had swelling in both my legs and the dr.s first thought was conjestive heart failure too. and then i reminded him i'm on a calcium blocker(norvask) for high blood pressure and water retention is a side of that. he agreed that this made more sence. i could put thumb prints in both my ankles.are you on any of this stuff?  Funny thing though for me, the sweeling went away when i started the tx. because the tx causes us to dry up. thus we need to drink all the water. the nurse at pegasist said they could be balancing each others side effects out. but, anyway you look at it, you should inform the dr. as soon as possible. just in case of something serious.
