Incevik: What about genotype II?

I'd like to know that they won't forget about all those with genotype II.  My doc says that I can't get the drug.  Only genotype I can have the new drug.  Does anyone know where genotype II stands on this new drug?

People say you have some good info on an oral medicine trial for Hep C genotype 2 folks who have tried and failed at Interf/Rib.  Can you email me something on it?  I would really appreciate it.

Thanks for the reply.  I'm sure you will be successful. The stats are good regarding genotype 2 according to my doc.  I took the treatment in 2004 and it wasn't pleasant, but it didn't work for me.  I did the full 6 months, but when done the virus was still there and came back when I stopped the drugs.  I'm still hoping the something in the future that will defeat this no matter what the side effects.  Thanks again and good luck.

Thanks for replying to my post.  I took the treatment (int/ribo) in 2004.  It wasn't pleasant, but I finished it in 6 months.  Unfortunately, it didnt eradicate the virus. So I've been living with the knowledge that I still have it, hoping for something new and more robust treatment.  It's good to know that they are working on new things for genotype II such as the oral meds.  Where can I find more info on this?  Thanks again for the reply and good luck on your treatment.  I understand the stats are good for genotype II regarding int/ribo.  Unfortunately, I was in the statistic that no one wants to be in.  Failure.  Thanks again.

Thanks for the reply on my post.  I tried to combat it with int/rib back in 2004 and it failed to get it.  The viral count was very low, but when I finished the treatment after 6 months the virus returned.  I'm still hoping for something in the future no matter what the side affects.  The two drugs were bad enough, but getting rid of hep c is worth it.  Thanks again and good luck.

I was VERY  releaved when my dr. told me my ins. co. would not approve inc. didnt want it at all, if it was not necessary. Just HOPING and PRAYING that this soc is going to do the trick. So far so good, and only 2 more shots and 15 days of riba................ :)  PLEASE! Cant wait! Trying to take it one day at time so I dont get to psyched out over counting the days.

I'm genotype 2 and my doc said the same.
This is good news, really it it.
Why do you want to add a third intense drug when you only need two?
And since I've been doing this treatment, and hearing about side effects from the triple therapy, I'm very glad I'm taking two, not three.

Now, the new oral trials, are proving very promising, especially for genotype 2 and 3. But they are not available to the public other than in a clinical trial.

If you think about it why add the additional side effects (which are not pleasant) if you dont have to but you have the same as just interferon and riba?

Among HCV G2-infected patients, SVR rates were 56% (5 of 9) with telaprevir monotherapy, 100% (5 of 5) with triple therapy, and 89% (8 of 9) with peginterferon plus ribavirin. However, among the HCV G3-infected patients, SVR rates were 50% (4 of 8), 67% (6 of 9), and 44% (4 of 9), respectively.

They did trials for geno 2's and it showed no benifit compared to 6 month inf/riba (SOC) therapy. The FDA only approved it for geno 1's.
