Incivek and Cough

I finished Incivek on Sunday, so this is my third day without it. I had a dry scratchy cough the entire time I was on Triple treatment. I was blaming it on the Riba. I noticed today that my cough is now very minor, a rare occurance instead of every minute or two. Has anyone else noticed their cough has disappeared or markedly improved after finishing Incivek?

Everyone taking this medication should make sure that they have had all
there vaccinations.  Getting a tetanus shot also prevent getting pertussis
(whopping cough).  In recent years many adults have gotten whopping
cough.   I have had it.... it takes months to go away.  It was miserable
and the doctors didn't know what it was at first.  It lasted months.  Also,
having a flu shot doesn't seem to hurt.  I had one three weeks before
treatment.  I had  one also at the beginning of fall.  Flu shot are only
good for a season.  For whatever its worth....  during Incivek treatment....
I have very few flu like symptoms and never coughed during treatment.
I'm now at week 14 of treatment and little change since not taking Incivek.
I really didn't want to get something else on top of doing this treatment.
The treatment alone is enough to think about without some other illness.

The cough could be from ribavirin. Mine was reduced and within two weeks the cough was gone, along with the shortness of breath I'd been experiencing.

To break up the boredom, I give my husband: almond butter, peanut butter, one slice of toast with a 2 pats of butter, some muffins (read the label for fat content) hazelnut butter, A small cube of precut cheese (some of them are pretty high in fat),

To counter act/lower the extra fat in your diet you can try eating foods that will lower your fat intake like: Beans and Legumes, Leafy Greens, Garlic and Onions, cayenne, cinnamon, Turmeric, and Flax Seeds and Flax Seed Oil.

Mike-I'm definitely with you on the peanut butter I haven't gotten to the point of making a vow but I really don't want to have any. For a really long time!
I finished treatment about three or four weeks ago and noticed that as far as allergies and an are concerned I did think that the medication made him worse or harder to deal with. The asthma inhalers really have a tough time dealing with this stuff.
Congratulations to Livinontheedge, Pooh, Mike & Jasmine on the end of the incivek. May the remainder of your treatment be much easier!

I'm right there with you Mike! Talk about altering your take on food. I'd rather go hungry than to eat anymore, between the Incivek fat hangover, my mouth full of sores, altered taste buds so nothing tastes right or good, then add the nausea and vomiting? Yah, I will pass on the food! Lol

Hi Pooh,   I am not so certain it ever was the incivek.  Currently on week 15 post incivek and my cough is just as bad or worse than it ever has been.   I am drinking water with lemon juice and a smig of sugar to keep my throat moist, along with running a cool mist humindifier as well.    The cough is so deep that it feels like I could hack up a lung or maybe even the bottom of my lower lumbar sometimes   Then that triggers nausea and the next thing you know I am vomiting.   So this is what I am going through and it has been worse since the incivek.    I still cant eat alot of different foods, having to keep it really light on my tummy, or the nausea does return too.  Water does not sooth my throat, actually it makes me nauseated, so lots of gatorade and water and lemon juice just to keep the fluids down.

Know just how you feel, think it could take years before I can eat another nut and the thought of fat just makes me sick.  :p

I am six weeks post incivek now, I more often get nauseous now that I'm off the fat (may just be cognizant enough to notice now!), definitely feel like heck, seriously crabby unfortunately. But after incivek, I am rating sx on a completely different scale.  Sooo sick of the meds but think the worst may be behind me now.  Hope it is for you too.

Have a great fat free holiday!

Thanks, Jasmine.

I have asthma too but my inhalers never touched that dry scratchy cough I got with the meds. That is why I knew it was the meds and not asthma. And now that it is mostly gone, I really know it was the Incivek, or at least I think so.

I agree, these meds affect everyone differently and also to different degrees. Plus, sometimes the side effects come and go. But just when you think they are gone, back they come in full force, LOL, especially the flaming diarrhea.

I am feeling much better being off the Incivek. I was not sure if I would feel any better or not, but my nausea is much easier to control and I am not as tired. I am finally getting some sleep.

I know the Pegasys and Riba will still pound me with side effects, but I am very happy to be off Incivek. (I don't think I will every eat Greek yogurt again, LOL.)

Hi pooh, glad you are feeling a little better.  Funny with me I never coughed until I finished incivek, now daily.  Incivek seemed to control my asthma. Think my cough now is a combo of RIBA and asthma.  It's controllable for me.  Odd that these meds impact people in such different ways sometimes.
