Inflammation of Hands, Knees, etc. Anyone else have this?

by Bevily, Nov 03, 2003 12:00AM
My husband, Hep. C genotype 3a, shot #17 on Peg/Cop., viral load undetectable at week 12, originally 543,000 has been experiencing terrible inflammation in his hands and other joints.  He had this problem before tx but it has gotten worse during treatment.  His hands look slightly red and feel very hot to the touch. Sometimes they look whitish in spots and red, swollen, but not like they have fluid on them.  He can barely move his hands when this happens.  It's mostly at the middle finger joints. His wrists are also very bad.  One wrist has developed a large bump on it. He had been treated by a rheumatologist and they ruled out rheumatoid arthritis.  During tx, hubby's sed rate was sky-high at 99!! I was wondering if anyone else has had these problems or heard of them.  Is this something he may have that will be permanent after tx is over?  I am expecting this is something that just may be with him afterwards and to get a head start on treatment for it may help us. He has an appointment to see the rheumatologist for this, but to tell you the truth, fellow Heppers might know more about this than the docs!  They seem to be taking a long time at finding answers to some of these problems.
Hubby has had one heck of a time on this treatment.  He has been fatigued, achy, moaning all the time.  He does work, goes late, leaves early, has every symptom in the book--the rash, the itching, TMJ, food is tasteless, can't sleep, depressed, and on.  Thank God he only has 7 more weeks left.  Neither one of us can take much more.  Hats off to those who go the 48 weeks!!!!!

I developd gout about 30 weeks into treatment. Elbow swollen, red, very hot to the touch, and hurts. I think gout only affects one joint at a time though. I have a couple of friends with RA and it sure sounds like it. There is pretty good info on the web about it. Just search arthritis. Good luck.

WHAT DOES YOUR GI SAY? IS THIS A REACTION TO THE PEG? OR LIVER DESEASE OR SOMETHING ELSE?
