Interesting Information I found Out

This morning I got a phone call from a Priority Nurse in reference to my daughter changing from Peg Intron to Pegasys...I was concerned about the new dosage and how it compared to that of the Peg Intron in strength...She told me that Pegasys is based on the size of the liver..She said everyone has ABOUT a three pound liver and therefore needs 180 mcg of Pegasys for it to "do its work"... It also has less sides than Peg Intron and stays in your body approximately a day or two longer...Peg Intron is based solely on body weight..

I also questioned the hair-loss issue, I no so many of us have worries about this, being this is really the only side that would make outsiders aware that something was wrong..I found out that BOTH medications (Interferon and Ribavirin)cause the hair thinning and mostly due to DEHYDRATION!!  So drink up everyone, if you want to save your hair...The meds dry out our skin, as well as our hair folicles and cause the hair to thin...Not everyone will have this and some will have more than others, but you can try and avoid it by drinking plenty of clear fluids...

Amanda's viral load is now down to 3 million after 8 weeks (was 5 million after 5 weeks and she started at 9 million), type 1b, but not quick enough for the doctors I guess, so we are doing the switch .This saturday will be her first shot of Pegasys...We will keep everyone posted as far as the differences in sides etc.  So far she is doing very well, except for low blood counts and Neupogen and a bit of fatigue the day or two after her shot...
