Interferon and Multiple Chemical Sensitivity (MCS)

Hello I did 48 week combo tx 4 years ago now and have developed MCS, which a few doctors think is a result of the toxic interferon/ribavirin tx. The tx was very difficult due severe side effects. After a few years of feeling OK, but tired I am at the moment worse off after the tx, even with being HCV free! I have searched to try and find anything regarding a link between the tx and developing Multiple Chemical Sensitivity. I can no longer work and have to live on disability support. The Drs are supportive and prescribe various vitamin concoctions and make promises of feeling somewhat better, maybe in a few years time.

I used to be pro tx but after what has happened and now reading the after effects that other people have been suffering has changed my mind. Research into the long term effects of Interferon are no doubt kept under wraps by the drug companies.

I do not know personally how reliable this site is though.

I truely feel your pain and frustration Miko as I have been chemically damaged too but from different sources.

There is no doubt .that for some people treatment and the drugs that are involved can have side effects and some of those last a long time,  however the above links by Lloyd Wright  are only meant as scare tactics by himself ,so you will purchase his products(that have never been shown to cure HCV).  Buyer beware!

"As seen on TV"....it sounds like a pitch to me....

i think i would rather deal with the drug side effects than continue on the HCV path...

good luck to you.

Frank Lloyd Wright; isn't that the guy who designed funny houses?   never mind..

Problem becomes, for many of us, that we are 'damned if we do, and damned if we don't!!'    We must eradicate the virus, but BELIEVE ME, you do not want to end up with the side effects that quite a few of us have developed.  Its like having your old life taken from you!!!  And YES I am happy I no longer have the virus...and YES, I would treat again, to avoid liver demise and transplant, etc.....BUT, no one ever told us we would be left with an entirely different set of grossly and vastly more horrible day to day symptoms!!!!  The doctors all tell you how good you will feel after a few months...and that the side effects are only temporary.   Well, guess what????  For MANY of us, that advice is plainly just WRONG!!!

If you are left with feeling 'burned out' , lifeless, dizzy, and burdened with nerve damage, and brain issues, and have a hard time functioning normally both in work, and social life,........you might not be so happy with your lot in life.  You kill one bogeyman, only to have to confront ten more, on a daily basis...maybe for the rest of your life.  Sometimes the choices may be between horrible, and terrible.  Its a real crapshoot, and you have to do the tx to find out if you are in the 'lucky or unlucky' camp. Believe me, some of us end up with the worst QOL that you can imagine.  Just hope that you are a lucky one when using interferon.
