Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)

Nor sure if I have it, and if I do, it's a relatively mild case.

Still, started noticing mild bowel discomfort, bloating, and more frequent trips to the bathroom several weeks after stopping treatment. I did have some sort of intestinal "bug" around that time -- so possibly it's extension of that. I also began the transition to a higher-fat, low fiber diet to a lower fiber, higher-fiber diet -- so it cold be that. And I did come off my GERD (reflux) meds around that time -- so let's put that into the pot as well.

Anyway, curious if anyone else has had similar problems either during tx -- or especially post treatment -- and what steps/remedies/tests they took. I'll probably bring it up at my next visit to my hep doctor, but reluctant to start taking lots of tests when it might just calm down by itself over time, especially as the tx drugs leave the system and my digestive track makes adjusts to the higher fiber level. I'll probably be on the road for awhile but will try and check in later if my internet connection works.

Any thoughts are appreciated.

I go with the pro-biotics and slippery elm, again that wonderful product I use, UltraFiber, has psyllium husk and slippery elm in it... am reading here about a drug for diarrhea that can maybe help the hep c too, ha ha...anyway, its interesting at any rate...

Had problems on tx but different. Interesting you mention chest pains because I have those also, mostly under the breasts and/or along the sides. I did a quick "google" on lactulose and it seems to mention "constipation". Not sure if that's what I have, but it's not diarreah either. More like "rumblings", some mild pain, and more frequent trips to the John. Depending on your response versus constipation, I will mention this to my doctor and hopefully won't have to take a bunch more of tests. Boy, am I getting sick of doctors, meds and tests. LOL.

Jim -- Glad to see you starting to feel normal again after tx.

Dyce -- Why do you take your riba at 2AM?  I was told it interfers with your sleep if you take it to close to bed time.  Sorry to hear your having a hard time. I know it not easy, I'm down to 147lbs but I think I gain a few lbs since the tran.

Can do Man -- You have been quiet today. Wife's been sticking you with that shot again, she must love shot night.

Dern dude , I think yur right there , I thought it was peculiar when the wife had that tape meaure over me whiles sleepin there, last nite.

                 Heard a little talk from her that it would be cheaper to just glue a piece of foam mattrace to our heads, Then when escorted to our rooms , we could have at it, be cheaper usin that method!

Love it, heck thats what she lives for. But after 27 years of putting up with me shes earned her fun. Its just that evil look she gets in her eyes that worry me. Heck if i ever stop tx i think she'll have more withdrawls then me. So hows the beagle doing today?

How is it goin bb? I take that riba at 4pm, it just seems to work on me all the time, especially at nite. Feel alright for a while, then I like start rushin from it, cycles like that for me. I wake up every nite around 2am.  
  Started paxil thursday, maybe that'll sttle me down some. I also take ambien around 8pm , maybe I should wait til later and take it.

Hope you're sittin' down because last night I had linguini, beer and ice cream for desert, and all this food talk is makin' me hungry so think I'll run out for some peperoni pizza, chips and anything else in site. I guess that's what happens when you've been in food prison for 54 weeks and the Warden says, "you're free". LOL.

Jim,,,,it doesn't surprise me that after treating,,,,there could be problems and seems like I read somewhere that lots with hep c do have IBS.  I'll see later when I have more time if I can find for you.  Of course you haven't been off tx all that long and maybe something that will fade out over time.

Space,,,if you are grilling some baby backs,,,why are you checking into IBS thread and even states what stands for lol

Your body is going through changes like before tx and now after.  Had the same problems and my dr gave my LACTULOSE SOLUTION, USP 10g/15 ML.  It tastes like honey and works really well, have not had a problem since.  You need a perscription to get it.  Hope this helps.

BB, is that Lactoluse only helpful if you eat/drink dairy products or will it help anyway? Any sides from it? It's funny because I don't remember these symptons at all while treating.

That's what great taking it, no sides, you don't even know your taking it.  It doesn't matter if you eat or drink dairy products.

I started having problem at the start of tx, it even caused pains in my chest if you remember, though I was having a heart attack.  This is what the doc gave me and I've been using it as needed.
I find that when my HGB drops or after a transfusion, I have problems.  Thought you did have problems while on tx, brain fog it was probably someone else.

Dyce -- That's what would happen to me, I would start rushing and couldn't sleep.  Now I'm on Lunesta and that helps for awhile.

Can do -- I know what you mean, my wife earned her right too, and let me tell you she'll torture me any chance she get, Heck we'll be married 39 years in Aug.

Just heard from fisheress, she's giving Rocker mouth to mouth.  She didn't know what happened, one minute she was read threads, next minute she was on the floor, guess it was the mayo.

I was just thinking, yes I do that sometimes but not much.  That thread they took away yesterday wasn't spacecoast but who ever it was probably got booted.  It's sad because it had to be one of the regulars and we may never know.
