Is hot-tubbing contraindicated while on TX

Hello guys
The reason I post this question is that I just purchased a jacuzzi and while I wait for my enzymes to drop and start TX in the fall, reading the manual has scared me a bit. It says hypertemia can affect the heart and no one with infectious diseades should enter the tub.
I would assume that if you're not bleeding it should be ok. And I assume it could lower the muscle aches of sx...
I appreciate yoour input on this matter

And

"My hair has rebounded better than I expected. As full as it was, and less gray than before tx."

Oh, nevermind - just too obvious. But thanks for pitching a nice slow one right over the plate....

Algie, I took the same approach re the sleep aids. Took me about 6 weeks before I weaned off. It's like potty trianing, don't force it, and it will come naturally. I'm hoping my day will come soon.

My hair has rebounded better than I expected. As full as it was, and less gray than before tx.

I was told to avoid public hot tubs until I get in better shape or buy a bigger swim suit. I suggested no suit but they said that could induce nausea in some.

Contraindication . noun .(medicine) a reason that makes it inadvisable to prescribe a particular drug or employ a particular procedure or treatment.

For instance: "IFN monotherapy is contraindicated for nonresponders"

I too am on tx (6 weeks left) and have a hot tub also. Our hot tub overflows into our pool and is on a timer so it gets run everyday. Therefore the reason I am writing this is......I saw a report about regular hot tubs that are installed should be run everyday and chemicals monitored just like a pool.    The reason for this is the water sits in the plumbing and creates bacteria, so when you turn it on after a few days, weeks or months,  you think the water is clean although think again...   eeeewwwww!

YEs the hot tub is wonderful for the aches and pains, we keep ours at a nice bath water temp.  Use it and enjoy it!

" Drinking alcohol is contraindicated with Hep C."
It means "don't do it"

Set your tub temp to body temp or a wee bit bit higher. Please have a timer on run time for safty reasons.

I have used my hot tub during the 19 weeks of treatment so far.  It has been a godsend.  When those muscle and joint aches hit there is nothing like a soak in a hot tub.  Sometimes I have gone in 2-3 x's a day.  It has been my life saver.

Alady, that sounds like a horrible experience you had with hot tubbing, 20 people doing it, yow.

I guess that's why it's called "Hedonism".

The place where I hot tub isn't quite as exciting.  But I always keep my head above water...

I'm 3 weeks off TX and I used a hot tub and pool (at a local club-used by many) several times every week during TX.  I sometimes worried about infection because my WBC was always around 1.4 but I never got sick.

AND the swims and the hot soaks were the best rescue drugs I had during TX.  I ALWAYS felt better after being in the cold water (helped my headaches more than anything else) and the hot tub (helped by joint pain more than any drug).

I always showered afterward (to get rid of the chlorine) and used Burt's Bees vitamin E oil on my body during the shower (to keep my skin from drying) and followed it with VERY moisturizing lotion.  I had few skin problems during TX.

Just my 2 cents.

I think you could get skin problems if treating with Ribavirin.  Other than that, I'm not sure.  Have you asked your doctor?

If the tub is for you and your wife, I wouldn't worry about your "infectious" disease if Hep C is all you're dealing with.

Personally, I feel weird about hot tubs.  I think it was an experience I had at Hedonism in Jamaica that turned me off to them for good.  20 people screwing in one huge hottub can't be healthy or sanitary.  LOL

i would think even if you bleed into the tub the heat and clorine would take care of the little buggers. also, do you now have heart problems? if not i do not know why a hot tub should cause them. ENJOY. it will help with the pains some.

I have a hot tub connected to the pool.  I just make sure it is not too hot and I have had no problems.  It is great for the aches and pains.

My hot tub goes on with the pool filter everyday.  Just make sure you have good filtering.  And, like the others mentioned, if you have no cut or bleeding, you should be fine.

I really feel pretty good.  Insomnia is still intense.  I've been trying to give up the sleep drugs but I think I'm just going to give up for a few months--at least until my hair stops falling out!

Next Monday, I go in for the 4 week PCR.  A little terrifying.

You must have some really sturdy blood--I can't believe that your Riba dose isn't tanking your hgb!  How are you feeling?

Only thing my doctor has told me was to limit the hot tub time to a maximum of 20 minutes. After that he said it would go the other way and start making the aches worse. I usually stay in about 10 minutes and have it as warm as I can stand it. Good luck to you. Dale

I never really wanted to stay in more than 10 minutes.  It always felt like more would be too much of a good thing.  So Dale's limit sounds like good advice.

Oh heck, don't be so hard on yourself Give em up later on Insomnia is such a pain. I bet it takes a while to get our body rhythm back to normal after the assault of the virus then the drugs. I heard it takes a few months for the hair to stop falling completely, but many say it comes back better, thicker, even read a few guys say grey returned as their before they were grey color! Every chemo survivor I have known had their hair come back in nicer so have heart! It's coming!

The only reason my husbands dr told him not to use a hot tub is because if it is to hot you will perspire and lose the fluids you need. We keep ours just warm enough so he does not sweat. The dr was fine with that.

We bought a hot tub about a year after I failed tx.  I wish that I would have had it during tx because of the relief it brings to achy muscles.

My take is enjoy the tub with your friends and family.  HCV tranmits via blood to blood so unless YOU are bleeding there's nothing to worry about.
