sure if you don't exercise.  started tx in June last year maintained at 122lb for all my clinic visits before December, i gained about 1-2 pounds, or maybe it's the winter clothes.

Never gained weight on tx.  Moderate excercise, good diet, lots of water and still lost 12 lbs no matter how much or what I ate.  I have gained 2 lbs back in 51 wks of tx and I started tx at a normal weight and BMI for my height.
Muscle loss has occurred despite my efforts to prevent it.  I agree, age has an impact.
I could never maintain a rigorous excercise program through tx.  Not enough stamina or breathing capacity and I tried very hard.  Prior to tx worked out a minimum of 3 x week, during tx no way even with modifications.  So to say you will have nothing to worry about isn't the case with everyone.  Depends on many factors including how the metabolism is effected by the drugs.

At first I gained, then I lost.  I seem to be maintaining at this point.  It all depends on which particular food I am fixated on at a particular point.  I have run the gamut from ice cream to green beans.  Right now I am eating ok....just nothing with skin or muscles.  Also depends on  how motivated I am to excercise-which can be hard to do with anemia-even tho I always feel better afterward.

Are you talking about the HCV virus and/or treatment?

Before  I treated I was  always able to maintain weight and build muscle mass. After treatment a little less so re the muscle mass but the blame here could be on advancing age and/or decreasing testosterone levels. The decreasing testosterone levels btw were a direct result of treatment.

As to during treatment,  people are going to react differently to these drugs. I lost close to 40 pounds very quickly during treatment and a significant percentage was muscle weight. The not so very scientific way my NP explained it is that interferon can consume muscle. I did my best during treatment to stop the wasting, increasing calories and working out to tolerance, including weight work. Needless to say the amount of weight I was able to lift during treatment was considerably under my pre-treatment baseline.

I gained 30 lbs because I cannot do aerobic ex. due to the anemia from TX. My body was used to running 7 miles a day and now I get winded on the stairs.

Actually I think it is a mechanism that the body does to protect itself

So I say yes it would hold onto weight

Stress and the Virus and especially IR has put an extra 40 pounds on from  not eating right and inactivity due to the virus as the primary cause for the change in life style  most likely

Some people here have gained weight on Tx and After   Anti D's can also cause weight gain.

why do you ask??

It's possible to gain or lose weight on treatment. Just eat healthy and drink plenty of water and get some exercise in and you don't have to worry about it. I work out constantly while on tx and that's been the biggest reason for why I don't have fatigue I've also cut close to twenty seven pounds. Just stay healthy and pay attention to your diet and you will have nothing to worry about.
