Yes but it does occur. G2s have 85-90% chance of SVR with SOC.
However if G2s dont RVR this goes down to around 70%.
Some G2s need 48 weeks.

Be sure to get your viral load tested at week 4. That way you will know if you are a rapid responder or a slow responder. A geno 2 who is not UND by week 4 is a slow responder.

If you are a rapid responder, just continue SOC. If not, you need to discuss with your doctor if any changes in your treatment regime are needed, such as raising doses to weight based if you are not on that already or extending treatment to 48 weeks.

Good luck!

I am a geno 2b.  Due to the fact I didn't know too much in the beginning and was shocked over hearing I had HCV, my first doctor ( who vanished while I was in treatment - had to find another ) wrote an order for blood work at end of week 3.  Starting VL was 1.8 million/Log of 6.26.    VL at end of week 3 showed  135/2.13 Log.    After finding another doctor, I had VL test again at week 8 and showed  UND <5.  My current doctor tells me that if I'd had the first test at end of week 4, it most likely would have shown UND, since I had over a 4 Log drop. I'll really never know, but the 8 week was UND.  I'm on 24 week and my doctor wants a VL test next week which is the end - wk 24.   Good luck to  you.

Hello
I'm also a 2b and I got my first PCR at week 2. I was UND <615 which is not too accurate so I did it again at week 4 and I was UND <15, so I was considered an RVR. My doctor even implied that I could do 18 weeks because of my thyroid problems, but after reading Dr Shiffman's paper on ClinicalOptions about optimal tx duration for geno 2/3  I decided to go the 24 w course.
I reduced my riba intake to 400 mg in the last month though.
I was UND at EOT and I felt I could have gone for more IFN.

So, don't worry about the duration...Just take care of the sx and stick to the course & do your bloodwork often

It's not rare for any genotype to relapse. Just that geno 2/3 have a better success rate. Once a person reaches SVR, (6 months post treatment) then it is rare for any genotype to relapse if still undetected at that point. Only a 2% chance or less at this juncture.

My Dr told me I was an excellent candidate for SVR b/c my weight is perfect and Im a 2, so hopefully I will acheive the goal.

Good news....My liver enzymes and going down rather nicely. Theyre almost normal and I just started last friday!!
YAY for me!!
