Male, 33, Calgary - AB, member since Feb 2010
My husband went for blood donation, and he got letter that he had hepatitis C in past and not now. He never got treatment before than howcome his hepatitis C is not in his body anymore. ... [More]

He is not living with me. He told me, doctor told him he have only 6 years to live. I love him and I don't want to loose him. Is he really will die because of hepatitis C. Is that right.

He work hard and no one can say he have any problem. Thanks for your time

Hey Mary,
Calm down. This letter is very unclear.
The poster needs to try harder or to get someone to help her compose this letter so that we are more able to properly respond.

If you look at her profile it says male. Obviously this is someone who is not fluent in English, barely literate or playing a game.  My guess is the first.

Somebody should sue that doctor, how horrible to say that.
I was told that I am more likely to die with this disease than from it.  It is something to keep an eye on though, testing, treating if possible with the right treatment for the type of genome type.
Its a bummer for sure, but you need to see a specialist and find out "why" this doctor said 6 years, how crazy is that?

agree with the others.

something just doesn't seem right. no doctor could predict death in 6 yrs.

see a hepatologist for definative answers.

best of luck

I think he should make an appointment with a heptologist.  They can run tests and are qualified to give him the specifics.  Do not trust a regualar MD as they do not know the ins and outs of the virus.  What you said does not really add up so I think it is best to get the facts from a qualified  doctor.  Anyway that is what I would do. He won't be able to donate blood anymore if he indeed has it or has had it.

Can you, please, explain why the doctor told him he has 6 years to live? Even for somebody who does have hepatitis C, this estimate sounds strange.

We need more information.

It is possible that his body beat off the viral infection when he first had the disease.  This can be verified with a test called a PCR. He will always have the antibodies show up though - even though he does not have the disease.

Most people who do have hepc don't show any signs or symptoms until the very end phase of the disease.  You can die of hep if you do have it and do not treat it in time.

However if he doesn't have it and has never done any treatment I don't see why he would die of a disease he does not have.  His body would have to have fought it and beat it when he first got it.  I don't believe that anyone could develop that much liver damage that quickly as to cause their death.  Especially that a doctor would say six years is very very strange as nobody knows how fast the disease will progress until the end.

It doesn't make very much sense to me really.   Something is not quite right I don't think.
