Is this a side effect??

I am in week 43/48 and within the last couple of months, I have noticed the sides and the tip if my tongue have gotten very dark. There was no pain involved, until the last week or so , down the center of my tongue is very sensitive. Just wondering if anyone else had either experienced this or heard of it before??
Thanks
Anne

I have had many problems with sores in my mouth and sensitivity of my tongue. Biotene mouthwash and toothpaste really helps. It is sore and sensitive on the tip and around the edges of my tongue. I cannot eat anything spicy or salty. Soft serve yogurt is my favorite.
There is also something called Magic mouthwash that helps. Talk to your doc but I think it is common.
As Trinity said congrats on 43/48 your awesome to make it this far. Keep us updated on how it goes.

I have exactly the same thing as you and Trinity describe.  It became so painful sometimes that I could barely eat or talk.

I tried a zillion different things, changing the food I ate, keeping my mouth well hydrated, using organic toothpaste (no Sodium Laurel Sulphates), non-alcohol mouthwashes, baking soda mouthwash (yukky!) and so on.  It all helped a little but didn't really ease the discomfort.

I became so desperate I finally went to my GP and stuck my tongue out her and she said "thrush!" and gave me a course of fluconazole which, touch wood, seems to be working.

I took 1 x 150mg for 3 days and then another 150mg a week later.  I am to take another 150mg at the end of this week.

I noticed that the discomfort started coming back on about the 6th day after my initial fluconazole dosing and within 24 hours of taking another capsule it had started to subside.

I don't think self-diagnoses is a good idea while we are on the tx meds so perhaps you should get it checked out with your doc?  FYI: I checked with my TX Nurse if there were any contraindications between tx meds and fluconazole before I took them and she said it would be fine....

Hope you can find some relief soon...

Firstly, let me congratulate you on reaching wk 43.  Five more weeks and you're done!
I'm on wk 41 and do not have any discoloration at the tip of my tongue but my tongue is very sensitive to salt, acidic food and spicy foods.  I can no longer put my favorite Italian dressing on salads because it burns my tongue.  Toothpaste and mouthwash are torture.  Started having this sx around week 35 but never had the mouth sores some people have.  Oh yes, just when you think you're over one sx, up pops another one.
Good Luck and wishing you SVR.
