Itchy Scalp

by ccurl, Aug 23, 2009 10:42PM
My scalp has started to itch a bit.  I just used "Woody's Meat & Potatoes Bar" soap I had bought for my husband, it has tea tree oil and hemp among other things in it.  Using this does relieve the itching for a day but it starts up again.  I just purchased some Organic Root Stimulator, used it earlier but scalp itching again.   This is not driving me too crazy but I would like to know if this is any sign I may have hair loss issues?  I have seen the forum links on the hair loss but nothing much on itching.  There doesn't seem to be any hair loss at the moment.  I took my 5th shot on Wednesday.  Thanks for any insight.

I would think it more to the dry skin than a sign you are going to lose your hair.  I lost a lot of hair without the itch.

Try Neutrogena T-Gel. I used that for my severe itching. Normal dandruff shampoo is not good enough.

Thanks to you both.  I am going out to buy the T-Gel today.  and glad to hear it may not be related to hair lost, thanks for that YuK.

I have a major problem  with my scalp too.Itchy, dryness& red splotches. I think its psoriasis. I also have rashes...I use a shampoo BAR called ZNP,it seems to help. Its usually not on the store shelf but over the counter "behind" the pharmacy. It doesn't cure it,I have to use it every day.It just maybe worth a try if you'd like.

I had very little hair loss during tx.  What I did lose happened around week 17.

One thing to watch is dryness. For both your scalp and body.  Make sure you are staying hydrated.  Try not to shampoo every day as that just strips necessary oils.  As you progress in tx, you may find that your body stops producing these oils--that was the case with me, I stopped sweating even (ewww...I know) But the point is that I was able to cut down on bathing and shampooing and that helped me to maintain some moisture. Use lots of lotions.  Preferably those without added ingredients that may make itching worse.

I did have itchy patches around my hair line and later on my neck.  Post tx, my derma gave me Desonide Lotion 0.05%....I'm wishing I had thought to ask about it during tx...it does help.

I colored my hair throughout tx also and only lost about 10% overall.

Atarax before bed also helped with the itches.

Good luck to ya

I got a hydrating gel for my scalp and it did wonders. No itching after using it regularly.
