I can't say for sure, I am not a Dr but usually if you stop doing damage to your liver the ALT/AST go back to normal and the progression stops.
Well....the prescription drugs and steroids haven't been for a couple years....
however occasionally on the weekends I will drink pretty heavily (going out with friends)..
do you think me doing damage in the past from these things will still effect my levels?
"since these numbers are slightly elevated..could it be due to trauma of the liver (i.e. binge drinking (weekends/spring break), moderate steroid usage (off/on through 2 years of college), medication (acutane), etc...) "

Sure it could be caused by all of this. But to be sure just get tested. It is only a blood test. Worrying about will not fix it. If you don't have hep c or hep b then the ALT/AST will go back to normal when you stop abusing things for a while.

sorry to post AGAIN, but since these numbers are slightly elevated..could it be due to trauma of the liver (i.e. binge drinking (weekends/spring break), moderate steroid usage (off/on through 2 years of college), medication (acutane), etc...)
I don't know, maybe she was saying it incorrectly over the phone?
maybe it is ALT?
(don't know much about this stuff)
anyway, if it is ALT, am I real high?
what levels are considered normal then??
I've read several places that for levels of ALP (not ALT), 40-125 is considered normal
and for AST 5-45 is normal??
I seems to be right around this range?? maybe slightly high??
is this cause for concern?
all help appreciated..
They are abnormal. That is why he is testing. There is no average for people with hep c. What you have is considered mildy elevated. But still causes damage to the Liver. Best thing is to get tested for hep c and hep b. By the way it is ALT not ALP.
