LOOKING FOR PHYSICIANS IN CHARLOTTE AREA

Hello,

My best friend has liver disease from hep C.  I'm trying to help her find doctors in the charlotte, nc area that aren't "transplant happy."  Anyone????

A lot of gastrointeroligists treat Hep C. That's what my Docter is. He is the same one that did my colonoscpy. I don't think you'll find HepC in the phone book or Medical directory. I was told by a friend who works for a cardiologist to also check with "Infectious Disease" docters--and sometimes if they don't treat HepC they will refer you to one who does. It would be hard to know if they are transplant happy until talking with  on the first visit.

Also another thing that has been widely suggested and a very good idea (I almost did it) is to go to a large teaching hosp. to get a doctor.

You might try Duke Univ, they have a gastro/hepatology clinic and they are involved in studies.  You might be able to get someone at Duke to recommend a doc in your area.  My local doc was an 'asst prof' at such a place and had some 'connections' to the Univ clinic here.  Unfortunatley, my insurance does not have the Univ. clinic in it's coverage.  But, I'm paying out of pocket (one-time event) to make my self known for a trial and my local doc will receive re-tx recommendations that he will execute, if I go back to traditional combo tx.
