Lab Test back, need help on what this means.

        NS5                   NONREACTIVE
                              Reference range:NONREACTIVE

        hSOD                  NONREACTIVE
                              Reference range: NONREACTIVE
*************************************

HEPATITIC C RNA, PCR QUANT:
HCV RNA, QUANTITATIVE
REAL TIME PCR                  TNP/130       IU/ML
TEST NOT PERFORMED. QUANTITY NOT SUFFICIENT TO PERFORM THE TEST.

HEPATITIS C RNA, PCR QUANT:

  REAL TIME PCR                 <50           IU/ML    <50
HCV RNA, QUANTITATIVE           <1.70     LOG IU/ML   <1.70

Doctor says that my wife does not have Hepatitis C, and that the first screening test was a false-positive.  My wife does not have any prior history of blood transfusions, transplants, drug use, or other.  Can anyone interpret and should we get a second opinion to reenforce our doctors conclusion.

Thank you for letting us know.  I've been thinking of you.  I am so, so sorry the hep is still there.  It's not fair!  Have a little vacation from all the meds.  Feel regular for a while, strengthen up, so you don't have to spend too much time in "the hotel".  Those beaches should be nice for a couple more months before the cold weather comes again... I'll be holding you in the Light.  Maj Neni

if tests results show nothig out of range, I usually do not worry about it. If there is a positive or out of range figure, I check further. If they did not have enough sample to do the PCR, why don't they repeat it, since the antibody was indeterminate.

Hi! Thought I would pass on Giddy's information. We have been dealing with a broken computer at home and could not write easily..
well sorry to say his 10 day post tx (15mc daily infergen 1000 riba 48 weeks)was vl was 200,000 something. the good news is the doctors feel that he has probably helped his liver along (stage 4)The docs are giving him a few months off of treatment...they will start him on a weekly maintenance program (pegysus no riba) in January. Considering all he has been through the dose shouldn't have too much of an effect on him as far as side effects go. looking towards a protease inhibitor phase three trial down the road...
Overall he is starting to feel a bit better, a little more energy everyday, still sleeping quite a lot, but has been able to get down to the beach with me a few times. He has been weaned off of most of his side effect meds....and as we all know its one day at a time all the way around. Hope all of you are well and hanging in there. You are in our thoughts...Su

Your doctor is probably right but I'd repeat the HEPATITIS C RNA, PCR QUANT test.

The results were a bit confusing as it appeared to have been performed two times with insufficient quantities of blood the first time.

You say, your doctor says there was a "false positive". Was there another test done or is this it?

Anyway, everything's probably OK but if you can't get things completely clarified here or with your doctor, just repeat the PCR Quantitative.

BTW none of us are doctors here so take any advice in that light.
